Our primary customers are other State departments and agencies. We also serve vendors wishing to do business with the State, and citizens and organizations interested in purchasing surplus government property.

DGS consists of five divisions : Central Procurement Office (CPO), State of Tennessee Real Estate Management (STREAM), Vehicle and Asset Management (VAM), Document Solutions, and the Division of Administration.

STREAM is one of five divisions within the Department of General Services. This division is dedicated to operating, managing, and maintaining the State's real estate assets to ensure a comfortable, safe, and efficient working environment for State tenants, employees, and guests.

The Department of General Services is looking for a talented individual to join our team as an Interior Design Project Manager. We are looking for :

The Interior Design Project Manager works within the State of Tennessee Real Estate Management (STREAM) division of General Services.

Our team of workplace strategists and interior design project managers oversee the design and construction of office space for various state agencies across 95 counties.

Projects can range in size and complexity from small furniture / finish upgrades to large single-story build to suits. The right person for this job will use their knowledge of design principles and best practices to develop block plans, finish plans, and signage plans to collaborate with architects.

You will review construction document sets to ensure state requirements have been accommodated. You will work with vendors to oversee the procurement and installation of furniture, soundmasking, artwork, shelving, signage, and cabling.

You will work with lessors contractors to remain involved in the progression of construction, while communicating schedule changes to key stakeholders (STREAM colleagues, external vendors, state agencies, etc.).

You'll have exposure to the entire lifecycle of the project : from initial design conception to final punch walk-throughs and agency move-ins.

Most importantly, the spaces you design support thousands of Tennessee State employees to provide critical services to citizens across the State for years to come.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Oversees projects through the full lifecycle.

2. Oversees preparing space utilization and layout design plans using Computer Aided Design (CAD) to develop and prepare project specific drawings and specifications for furniture, telecommunications, electrical, and other equipment.

3. Determines technical project requirements, design specification, and concepts. Review building spatial for code compliance.

Performs field measuring, concept studies, test fits, furniture inventory, and BOMA calculations.

4. Oversees developing project milestones through obtaining and reviewing cost estimates and project schedules.

5. Oversees developing project budgets and writing justification of estimated total project costs to submit for approval.

6. Obtains move information from clients to coordinate and schedule the furniture, equipment, surplus, and necessary elements to be transported.

Assists in maintaining, compiling, and submitting all necessary documentation for closing efforts to ensure appropriate deadlines are met.

7. Communicates with designated cliental regarding project timeline, status, and finalizations. Keeps consistent communication with vendors, lessors, internal and external business partners, landlords, and tenants.

Utilize internal tracking systems to ensure communication is distributed within department.

8. Maintains knowledge of existing facilities, client standards, industry requirements, mandated codes, policies, and procedures.

Apply the rules of regulations related to governing the acquisition, construction, and / or alternations of leased or state-owned spaces.

Regularly refers to ADA handbook as needed. Maintains frequent communication with the State fire marshal office for all state projects.

9. Assists in training / onboarding of new DGS Interior Design Project Managers.

Required Experience :

Experience in architecture, industry related project management, and evaluating and planning the renovation, construction, installation of building system components, or interior and construction space planning.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to five years of work in one or a combination of the following : architecture, industry related project management, and evaluating and planning the renovation, construction, installation of building system components, or interior and construction space planning.
