Join the OrthoNY team as a Pre-Op / PACU RN and play a crucial role in providing high-quality care before and after surgery.
You’ll prepare patients for surgery, assess their post-operative condition, monitor vital signs, and ensure they meet discharge criteria.
With a focus on patient comfort and safety, you'll assist with medical history gathering, informed consents, and provide detailed instructions for pre- and post-op care.

General Description
The Pre-op / PACU RN will assist in providing high quality care during the pre-op and post-op phase of the patient's visit.
Responsibilities
- Assess, instruct & prepare patients prior to surgery;
- Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and correct;
- Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure;
- Assess patients’ post-operative condition;
- Monitor vital signs and other measurements of progress to ensure patient is meeting discharge criteria;
- Document all findings in patient files;
- Answer patient questions to ensure patient comfort;
- Monitor patients for condition changes, report any changes to physician;
- Perform intervention duties during post-operative emergencies;
- Gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative and post-operative care;
- Other responsibilities as needed / assigned.
Qualifications
- Current unrestricted NYS RN license;
- Minimum of 2 years previous PACU or critical care experience required;
- Ability to effectively communicate with providers, patients and peers;
- Candidate must demonstrate aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters, keeping flow to reasonable time frame in post-operative care;
- Specialized knowledge, skill and abilities in perioperative nursing;
- Capable of decision making when applicable.
Other Information
- Ability to travel to various OrthoNY locations if needed. Reliable transportation is essential.
- Schedules are Monday through Friday; No weekends, holidays, or on-call.
