Sr Industrial Engineer

Location : This is a hybrid position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Senior Industrial Engineer will create, develop, and implement efficient utility and / or manufacturing systems, reducing costs while maintaining standards of operations. The incumbent will lead studies on the processes used by various departments and external industry practices to identify ways to streamline production processes and improve overall efficiencies and quality, while reducing costs using lean principals. Responsible for conducting complex time studies, analyzing data, and developing process improvement plans. Oversee the work of lower level engineers and technicians on large projects and develop training and coaching programs for employees on new processes and procedures to increase productivity and quality while reducing waste and costs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of best practices in manufacturing methods, and trends and developments in technology and equipment; apply this knowledge to maintain the organization's competitive edge
• Develop and maintain management information, planning, and control systems and designs and oversee the implementation of large and moderately complex production processes
• Conduct time studies and work sampling to determine the most efficient methods of performing tasks and analyze the data to identify trends and recommend process improvements
• Design, redesign, or enhance work areas and layouts so that awkward or uncomfortable positions, repetitive motions, and inefficient operations are reduced or eliminated
• Develop and implement systems to increase efficiency in all areas of production; includes but not limited to quality control, inventory management, employee productivity, and cost reduction
• Collaborate with stakeholders and other engineers to design cost-effective manufacturing layouts and building ergonomics for new product lines
• Identify and assess various problems and departures from established manufacturing standards and best practices; researches and recommends solutions
• Develop ergonomic solutions to reduce injuries and improve employee comfort and productivity
• Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
