The Community - Little Rock, AR

About the Facility - Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS)
The CAVHS, a flagship Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare provider, is one of the largest and busiest VA medical centers in the country.
Its two hospitals, located in Little Rock and North Little Rock, anchor a broad spectrum of inpatient and outpatient healthcare services, ranging from disease prevention through primary care, to complex surgical procedures, to extended rehabilitative care.
This System serves as a teaching facility for more than 1,500 students and residents enrolled in more than 65 educational programs;
its principal affiliate is the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

RN Med / Surg - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
- The RN Med / Surg provides professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of patients.
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, and complications of their use; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to reach promptly in emergency situations including the implementation of life-saving procedures.
- The RN Med / Surg provides counseling, guidance, and health instruction to patients; and-
- Identify disease entities to recognize complications and therapeutic interventions required.
- Provide professional nursing duties according to established professional nursing principles, practices, and procedures in a Med / Surg or PACU settings, assessing patient's physical, emotional, spiritual and socio-cultural needs.
- The RN Med / Surg demonstrates skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient serves; provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care to patients.
RN Med / Surg - REQUIREMENTS
- Completed courses for nursing from an accredited program approved by either the Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
- A current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
- Must have certification through the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Must have a minimum of one year experience within the last three years.
