GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Department of Technology (DOT) has an immediate opening for the Inventory Technician position working in the DOT Processing Center (PC).

Under the direction of the Coordinator of Customer Support and Quality Assurance, the position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the DOT PC, the life cycle management of technology assets (receiving, processing and disposing), utilizing computer-based software and applications relating to inventory movement and accountability, and providing customer service by fielding inquiries on technology asset purchases and general inventory / asset verification.

Works closely with various vendors for newly purchased assets and assets being disposed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of inventory / stock control practices, shipping / receiving practices, and basic computerized inventory accounting software.

Significant knowledge and skills in the design and construction of detailed spreadsheets and utilization of various reports.

Exceptional organization and contingency planning skills are required. Ability to work with all levels of division employees, the public, and vendors;

to make independent judgments / decisions based on written guidance; to learn new software and procedures as needed; to check data for accuracy and to multitask.

Technology specific only : ability to identify computer and network equipment, parts, and components.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required : High School Diploma or GED. Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; understand and execute oral and written instructions;

and ability to organize workload, work in a team setting, as well as working alone with minimal supervision. Experience and knowledge working in a processing center environment.

Must have a valid driver's license, attend a VBCPS defensive driving class and be forklift certified or certified within 90 days of hire.

Preferred : Experience as a warehouse worker in product identification, handling, and storage procedures, planning and tracking receivables and deliverables on both scheduled and unscheduled cycles.

A comparable amount of training and experience maybe substituted for the minimum qualifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.

Frequent sitting, walking, bending, stooping, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, and reaching. Occasional standing.

Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, fumes, unpleasant odors, extreme vibrations, hazards such as moving vehicles, moving mechanical parts, etc.

and / or loud noises. Ability to lift to 50 pounds frequently and over 50 pounds occasionally with assistance. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules.

Salary Range : From / To

Hourly rate range : $20.45-$29.83

Compensation will be based on job-related creditable years of full-time, verified work experience. The entry-level rate will be awarded at the time of hire.

Upon the return of employment verification forms from the candidate's current and previous employers, the rate will be adjusted if creditable full-time experience is confirmed.
