The Department of Public Service and Administration in the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time 9-month, non-tenured Associate Professor of Practice or Professor of Practice position in the area of City and County Governance, starting in August 2025.

We seek candidates whose demonstrated leadership and career achievements in the realm of city and county government equip them to inspire and mentor students who seek similar careers.

The successful candidate will be a recognized leader who has the contacts, expertise and professional judgement required to provide programmatic leadership for the Program in City and County Governance at the Bush School of Government and Public Service.

The City and County Governance program seeks to expand the pipeline of dedicated and well-prepared Bush School graduates into local government positions in Texas and beyond.

The objective is to ensure every city and county has competent administrative leadership. The person hired into this position will be well prepared to teach courses in public administration, public policy formation and other aspects of local government management, and will serve as the faculty engine to drive the long-term success of the City and County Governance program.

The person chosen for this position will have the opportunity to :

  • Build upon, and revise as appropriate, the current initiatives of the program,
  • Guide students as they connect theory with practice, both in and out of the classroom,
  • Represent the Bush School before former students, donors, and local government professionals,
  • Mentor students with assistance and advice as they plan their careers and future employment, and
  • Collaborate with Bush School scholars, administrators, and staff toward building relevant courses, planning effective events, communicating with former students, and developing social media messages

Bachelor’s degree and significant professional experience in City and County Governance required; advanced degree in a field related to City and County Governance strongly preferred.
