DescriptionSummary : Supports and coordinates day-to-day activities of nursing personnel in patient care units, provides direction to Clinical Staff, implements work of assigned units, and coordinates activities with other patient care units and related departments.

Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing.

Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers to help manage the clinical situation.The CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital, established in 1959, was the first children’s hospital in South-Central Texas.

Located downtown, this 190-plus-bed hospital serves more than 70,000 children annually from San Antonio, South Texas and around the world.

The hospital (in partnership with Baylor College of Medicine) is the only academic children’s hospital in San Antonio. Our highly specialized services meet the unique medical needs of children, from Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care to Children’s Emergency Services, the latest treatments for deformities of the spine including titanium rib implants and halo traction, a Heart Center, a specialized asthma program, a highly regarded Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, and growing maternal services to include consultation, delivery, and maternal fetal medicine.

Organizing and overseeing patient care delivery during an assigned shift, ensuring proper staffing and smooth operations of a patient care unit.

Coaching / counseling individual team members; monitoring and providing feedback on performance and addressing training needs.

Documenting daily staffing, operational, and administrative records; maintaining compliance with governmental policies and procedures.

Providing direction and support to nursing staff demonstrating and promoting respect for the dignity and rights of every patient;

assisting with communications with patients and familiesAllocates team resources responsibly and equitably, delegates appropriate levels of responsibility and authority, and provides oversight and guidance.

All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and a Critical Care Department-specific competency validation.

All newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation. Skills completion and competency completion will be achieved with the preceptor at the bedside and documented through the program’s tracking software.

Completion of all annual competency verification requirements. Experience 2 years of clinical patient care experience in a relevant setting.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications BLS required RN License in state of employment or compactCurrent PALS certification at time of hire for experienced RNs or completion by the end of the clinical orientation period for new graduate nurses and maintain certification thereafter for ICU units that are exclusively pediatric, or as needed by facility requirements.

Current ACLS certification at time of hire for experienced RNs or completion by the end of the clinical orientation period for new graduate nurses and maintain certification thereafter.
