JOB SUMMARY :
This position is responsible for participating in the operations of a wastewater treatment plant as an Operator Class III.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Assists in plant start-up and shut-down operations.
- Collects wastewater samples and assists in conducting basic process control analysis; assists in adjusting the operation of the plant based on results of laboratory tests as needed.
- Assists in cleaning, repairing, and maintaining plant equipment; performs preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
- Assists in the maintenance of plant equipment, parts, and supply inventories.
- Adheres to safe work practices and follows safety policies.
- Assists in the operations of the laboratory as needed.
- Maintains treatment records for facility operations in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Answers phones, provides assistance, directs calls to appropriate personnel, and takes messages.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements :
SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION : High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
EXPERIENCE :
Experience sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually one to two years in a similar position.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION :
- Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and procedures used in the operation of wastewater treatment systems.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment system operations.
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.
- Skills in the repair and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
LICENSURES AND CERTIFICATIONS : (Required)
- Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License required
- State of Georgia Class III Wastewater Operator License
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
- Frequently required to stand up to eight hours or more at a time
- Required to walk in rugged conditions
- Work in adverse weather conditions
- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
- Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and / or move up to 125 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
The work is typically performed in a wastewater treatment plant and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather.
Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
