Some roles require an office while others may be done remotely. This position is considered hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration.

Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our Boston office.

Sonos is seeking an Embedded Software Developer to join the recently formed Portables Category, Embedded Systems Team. In this hands-on role, you will be developing some of the core software and firmware at the heart of the industry’s most innovative portable products.

In the process, you will work with some of the brightest minds in the business across multiple disciplines of software, hardware, radio, acoustics, WiFi, and Bluetooth technologies.

This is an opportunity to join a high-performing team tasked with shaping the future of Sonos Portables from definition to launch.

What You’ll Do

  • You will work with and learn from an experienced team of embedded software engineers to deliver high quality product experiences.
  • Implement new features and maximize the potential of new and existing technologies.
  • Design, build, analyze, enhance, and refactor elements of the embedded software system used to power Sonos products.
  • Debug low-level problems that may span interfaces between hardware and software.

What You’ll Need

Basic Qualifications :

  • BS or MS in EE, CS, Mathematics, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in real-time operating systems programming in C / C++.
  • Knowledge of common communication interfaces at a hardware integration level (SPI, I2C, I2S, UART, USB, Bluetooth, WiFi, etc).
  • Demonstrable experience in developing performance critical SW in resource-constrained environments.
  • Exposure to modern embedded SW development processes including design, implementation, unit testing, continuous integration, version control etc.
  • Ability to work with people in different locations and time zones.
  • Qualified applicants must be able to work from the Boston office location for part of the work week.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Solid track record of shipping reliable, extensible and maintainable software.
  • Hands-on testing and debugging of embedded systems in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience with one or more of the following :
  • Solid understanding of Bluetooth fundamentals including Bluetooth Classic, Low Energy, and LE audio.
  • Experience in WiFi, including over the air analysis, and wireless coexistence.
  • Exposure to acoustic systems and acoustic measurements.
  • Demonstrated experience in audio and speech processing.
  • Embedded system security fundamentals including : secure boot, cryptographic algorithms and systems, and identity and trust management.

At Sonos we consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may lead individual compensation to vary depending on job related qualifications, skills, and experience.

All full time employees are eligible for merit increases, discretionary bonuses, and equity. Our job postings may span more than one career level and the base pay range may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions.

The starting base pay for this role for all US candidates is between : $134,000 and $149,400.

Please note that compensation details listed in US job postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
