The incumbent will assist in medical care of patients in the outpatient setting. The incumbent will facilitate the physician’s ability to manage the physician’s patient panel, provide patient appointments at an earlier date, and respond to patient medical questions in a timely manner.
This will consist of seeing patients with immunologic and rheumatologic diseases on a regular basis. The incumbent practices independently according to established protocols and in coordination with physicians, delivers quality healthcare across the lifespan.
- Attends outpatient clinic to provide medical care to complex Rheumatology patients
- Performs follow up patient visits for General Rheumatology patients
- Coordinates with physicians and nursing staff of related disciplines to ensure integrated patient care.
- Attends clinic meetings when possible
- Communicates with referring physicians and their offices regarding patient problems / progress
- Responds to telephone inquiries of patients and provides counseling and instruction regarding patient problems; sees the patients in the office the day of the call, if the issue cannot be resolved over the phone
- Orders medications as specified by the NP license and as directed by the supervising physician
- Provides follow up health maintenance care including the appropriate adjustment of patients’ medications in accordance with established protocols or in response to specific instructions from the supervising physician
- Prepares and dictates summaries of patient’s initial evaluations and follow up care
- There will be development and growth opportunities in the specific areas of joint aspiration and ultrasound
- May participate in ongoing clinical research projects
- Participates in appropriate continuing medical education
- Completes other projects and tasks as requested by supervisor
Position Compensation Range : $89,523.20 - $143,228.80 Annual
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education :
Nurse Practitioner Degree
Experience :
Education : Master’s Degree as an Advance Practice Provider - Nurse Practitioner or as an Advance Practice Provider - Physician Assistant
Experience : One to two years minimum experience as an Advanced Practice Provider Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred.
Licensure :
The incumbent must be a nurse practitioner who is licensed to practice in Virginia as a NP. Special training and / or certification in Rheumatology required.
Skills :
Experience utilizing a personal computer and computerized scheduling.

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling / bending / stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills;
Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift / push / pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood / body fluids and infectious disease.
