The Associate Director, Belonging & Inclusion for Spiritual life plays a key role in fostering a welcoming and inclusive campus culture for undergraduate and graduate students, supporting the spiritual and religious needs and well-being of our diverse student body and intentionally promoting inclusion, religious pluralism, and equity.

Specifically responsible for supervising a multi-faith team of chaplains and student-led faith groups; providing a courageous and contemplative space for discussion and reflection;

actively promoting holistic development and spiritual well-being; and partnering with Associate Director, Belonging & Inclusion for Cultural Life to deepen the integration of the intersectionality between cultural and spiritual identities, along with any campus partners to expand the Babson core values.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Supervise, manage, and support a staff of multi-faith Chaplains who provide spiritual care and counseling to students of all faith traditions including those who do not identify with one faith tradition;

lead weekly / bi-weekly chaplain meetings, one-on-one, and team-building opportunities.

  • Manage faith-based clubs and organizations and their annual recognition process as well as train and educate student leaders on topics of identity intersectionality, interfaith exchange, community building, and spiritual action to empower students towards social change and impact.
  • Co-chair, with the Associate Director, Belonging & Inclusion for Cultural Life, the Multicultural and Multifaith Leadership Council consisting of identity-based student groups to guide and offer support of program initiatives, seek regular input relating to Belonging and Inclusion support resources;

and promote dialogue on campus climate related to diversity, equity, and inclusion success and challenges as it relates to the student experience.

Oversee Chaplain and student group weekly programs (e.g., Chapel services, Jumuah, Shabbat, Mass, Aarti and Dinner, etc.

special events (e.g., Leap of Faith week and Faith Matters) and religious holidays; create new innovative opportunities for identity development, spiritual formation, inter- religious intersections, and reflection.

  • Serve as a key member and spokesman for the Office of Belonging & Inclusion for Orientation, Student Leadership Academy, student accommodations and Inclusive Excellence Summit.
  • In partnership with the Associate Director, Belonging & Inclusion for Cultural Life develop, plan, and execute regular community gatherings including but not limited to Sunday Suppers, Community Conversations, and Peace Circles.
  • Collaborate with a wide range of campus departments on various programmatic and policy initiatives, including Health and Wellness, Student Engagement, Housing and Dining Services, Multicultural Affairs, and Community Standards.
  • Support community with team of Chaplains during campus crises when care is indicated.
  • Develop partnerships for shared services with area colleges and other faith-based communities / organizations that can support faith-based traditions, services, and programs for our students both on and off campus.
  • Work with the Director to plan and coordinate Baccalaureate Ceremony; participate in Commencement if needed.
  • Under the direction of the Director, Belonging & Inclusion and in partnership with the Administrative Coordinator for Belonging & Inclusion, manage external chapel rental requests and meet required revenue generation as projected by the College.
  • Plan and implement faith-based reflections and retreats as appropriate.
  • Serve as a confidential resource for gender-based misconduct.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

Master's Degree (Master of Divinity strongly preferred)

At least 6-8 years of related experience; theologically and intellectually equipped and demonstrates leadership in a particular religious tradition.

Ability to promote religious inclusivity and spiritual wellbeing strategically and intentionally

Must have a deep understanding of the educational value of a diverse and inclusive community and experience conducting and organizing inter-religious services in a multicultural and multi-denominational higher education environment .

Must have a deep commitment to engage collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students and to respond effectively to their needs and concerns.

Must have in-depth knowledge of program design, implementation strategies, and evaluation methods and ability to execute .

Must have strong supervisory, administrative, leadership, diplomacy, and team management skills with the ability to engage others through a participative process, while serving as key decision maker.

Ability to create an environment where direct reports have the freedom and security to take initiative ; deal with complexities with resilience, resourcefulness, and optimism;

and appreciate open mindedness, creativity, and agility in thought and tactics.

Demonstrated strengths in public speaking and presenting, excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently to solve problems ; look for opportunities to take on responsibility; take thoughtful risks;

and effectively act on new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.

Ability to anticipate and effectively handle change; demonstrate willingness to try new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.

Must have strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Requires work onsite 5 days a week initially then hybrid at certain times of the year; the on-campus requirement is subject to modification based on organizational need.

Expected to be available some evenings and weekends to support programming needs.

Must be available and / or accessible for and during crisis within and around community.
