OBJECTIVE :
The Senior Manager, Business Operations, will lead the Oncology Therapeutic Area Unit (OTAU) with end-to-end oversight of OTAU Healthcare Provider (HCP) contracts, sponsorship agreements and external research requests.
The Senior Manager is accountable for the effective operation of the OTAU HCP contracts ecosystem : from coordinating with key business partners on policy and process, to ensuring each contract is routed efficiently and compliantly through Takeda's internal approvals and processing systems, to training and monitoring junior staff.
The Senior Manager effectively represents OTAU's interests in contract-related workstreams and change initiatives led by partner functions.
ACCOUNTABILITIES :
- Serves as the OTAU lead on all HCP-related workstreams and committees, taking full responsibility for all tools and processes generating out of these bodies and affecting OTAU HCP contracting agility, including escalating risks when necessary.
- Tracks and reports on contracting completion metrics, and escalates gaps or delays to be swiftly addressed.
- Trains and mentors junior members of the OTAU Business Operations team to ensure business continuity and to provide opportunities for career development.
- Works closely with clinical scientists to ensure they locate and partner with HCP’s most value-add to their programs.
- Advises internal OTAU contract requestors on contracting elements, including Fair Market Rate, based on past partnership data.
- Develops resources for internal OTAU use that facilitate the OTAU contracting process such as instructions, intake forms and FAQs.
- Prepares and delivers presentations to key stakeholders, as needed, to educate on the contracting and transactions process.
- Cultivates and maintains strong working relationships with key business partners including Legal, Ethics & Compliance (E&C), and the Oncology Business Unit and the Oncology Drug Discovery Unit.
- Develops and maintains strong networks with other contracting members in similar roles, adopting their best practices and introducing them to the OTAU environment.
- Oversees the execution of HCP and Healthcare Organization (HCO) contracts for OTAU.
- Facilitates compliance with HCP & HCO-related requests through internal systems.
- Collaborates with OTAU team members and other business partners, including the External Business Management (EBM) team, to manage vendor and transaction issues.
This includes Ariba Vendor Registration, Third Party Risk Management (TPRM), purchase order (PO) requests, invoice handling, monthly accruals, and payment confirmations.
- Manages sponsorship requests, including routing through appropriate review and approval channels, ensuring compliance and maintaining proper documentation.
- Assists with preclinical oncology research (PCOR) contracts from external parties.
- Assembles and leads teams for change initiatives, as needed.
- Develops and continuously maintains contract tracking systems to precisely fit the needs of OTAU stakeholders, business partners and oversight bodies.
- Collaborates with study teams and clinical operations to support DMC’s. Responsibilities include addressing conflicts of interest (COIs), handling contract requests, obtaining meeting approvals, confirming payments, and executing renewals for contracts as needed.
- Engages in R&D training and information sessions relevant to the role.
- Utilizes tools such as Smartsheet, OneNote, HCP Database, and SharePoint sites to enhance visibility across activities.
- Participates in other Business Operations activities as assigned.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS :
- Bachelor’s degree, with Masters degree preferred in related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Strong PC literacy with intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Hybrid working arrangements require a minimum of 8 days per month on-site Takeda campus presence, with additional days as required.
- Minimal travel (beyond Takeda site) as required for the work, primarily for meetings.

U.S. Base Salary Range : $133,000.00 - $209,000.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and / or from which they will be performing the job.
The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and / or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
