This position requires applicants to be Bilingual in English and Spanish. Please only apply if you are fully bilingual (able to read, write, and speak) in both languages.

Under the supervision of the Dean of the Community Education Division or designee, to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) in the classroom and in a workshop to a diverse learning population that includes immigrants and refugees;

and to assist with ESL learners' acculturation and integration into the community.

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom / laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education / training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Requirements :

Must have a bachelor's degree or higher* with at least 15 coursework credits(graduate or undergraduate level) in the areas listed below :

  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
  • Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)
  • Teaching English as Foreign Language (TEFL)
  • Linguistics
  • Applied Linguistics
  • English Language (including semantics, syntax, phonology, etc.)
  • English Language Teaching
  • English Language Learning and Teaching
  • Adult ESL Education
  • Curriculum and Instruction in ESL
  • Foreign Language Instruction
  • Second Language Acquisition Instruction

Per Higher Learning Commission Determining Qualified Faculty Assumed Practice B.2.

Masters degree or higher with at least 15 coursework credits (graduate or undergraduate level) in the areas listed above is highly preferred

Minimum Occupational Experience Requirements :

  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year of full-time or two (2) years of part-time experience as an English as a Second Language / English Language Leaning (ESL / ELL) instructor.
  • Fluent in in English AND Spanish

Minimum Language Requirement :

Must be able to read, write, and speak)in both Spanish and English languages.

Online Information Management Systems - e,g, Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters

Blackboard Ultra- Experience with Blackboard Ultra or other web-based course - management systems

Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and / or other classroom technology

Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications)Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg.

Start Date : This position supports the Community Education Division and is available to start immediately.

Hours / Location : This position is up to a .5 FTE; the number of hours worked per week will vary based on course load and departmental need.

Multiple classes occur at our Walker's Square location as well as in local City of Milwaukee area community based organizations.

Modality : IN PERSON

Salary : Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2023 / 2024 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
