We are looking for a peddle driver for the East Peoria, IL area. Anywhere from 6-15 stops per day depending on the route and miles driven.
Start times vary from 4am to 6am, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work overtime. The average week is about 50 hours.
The primary function of a Truck Driver is to operate tractor-trailer combinations and to move freight from one geographical point to another, safely, efficiently and professionally without damage and within the time frames specified by the customer.
This requires a high level of customer service orientation and quality orientation as a Company front line employee. As part of this function, truck drivers drop, hook, spot or otherwise interchange equipment for loading or unloading and efficiently sort, handle, secure, load and / or unload freight at various locations under varied conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following :
- Pick-up and delivery of freight
- Understand and carry out instructions given orally or in writing, including those on manifests and other shipping documents, to determine the nature and amounts of freight loaded
- Conduct a thorough pre-trip and post trip inspection of the equipment assigned in the manner prescribed by the Department of Transportation and the Company.
Review the transportation papers to determine if the equipment is ready to go, safe to operate and properly placarded according to the nature and amount of the cargo contained.
- Walk around truck and observe tires for appropriate amount of air
- Check oil, lights, gauges, switches for working order on trucks and trailers
- Secure load as required by State & Federal DOT regulations
- Ensure that the destination of the cargo and trailer match the dispatch given
- Fill out and process necessary freight paperwork in an accurate and timely fashion
- Safely operate tractor-trailer equipment in different configurations as assigned, with varying weights as allowed by law, under all types of climatic conditions, terrain, road conditions and traffic situations, in urban and rural settings, for extended periods of time, over long distances, either direct or by way of other intermediate points, with or without a partner, in accordance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations and Company policy
- Complete records of duty status (electronic logs) in an accurate and timely fashion when required.
- Utilize and follow all FMSCA and DOT, EPA and OSHA guidelines, Rules and Regulations. In particular, truck drivers are subject to the hours of service regulations of the United States Department of Transportation
- Follow all Company safety rules and regulations and comply with safety program duties
- Drop, hook, spot, switch and otherwise interchange equipment, including the hooking and unhooking of trailers from the tractor itself and the pushing, pulling, placing, lifting and attaching or detaching of various types of converter gear when necessary.
This also includes the raising and lowering of the landing gear on semi-trailers and / or the front support on converter dollies when the dollies are so equipped
Properly and efficiently load and / or unload and check material at Company or customer facilities, while assisted or unassisted, using various mechanical aids and freight handling equipment.
Properly secure or resecure the cargo as may be required
- Secure the load use of chains and straps with chains attached to secure load which include shoulder height to overhead reach and ratchet
- Lift / carry, push / pull lumber pieces to support / position material as needed
- As many as eight or more chains or straps must be secured per truck load
- Responsible for driving up to 11 hours per day and chaining or strapping / unchaining and unstrapping several loads per day
- Unrolling and rolling the tarp or pushing above shoulder height a canopy and loosening ratchets and pull straps when weather requires that could include several times per day.
The tarp weighs 75#-100#’s.
- Accurately spot and report safety issues or potential vehicle problems to the Company
- Follow all state rules of the road including driver courtesy standards
- Ensure customer satisfaction by following Company quality standards
- Protect Company equipment and assets from damage and / or loss
- Know, understand and apply the safety practices related to this position
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle cab and perform daily inspection of assigned vehicles including all inspections required by the DOT
- Clean truck windows and mirrors as needed including headlights, break lights and marker lights.
- Provide initial contact with public safety or law enforcement officials and the general public when involved in traffic accidents or hazardous material incidents

Safety : Must be able to work safely and effectively, whether under supervision or not, both at the Company and when making a pick-up or delivery.
Must be willing to drive any piece of Company equipment as long as it is maintained in a safe and sound condition.
Education and / or Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Recent driving experience in the type of vehicle being hired to drive, operating similar equipment over similar terrains and road conditions for long distances in various traffic and weather conditions or has graduated from a registered truck driving school.
A record of safe and competent driving (personal and commercial) as demonstrated on state motor vehicle records.
Pass a driving test on Company equipment in order to demonstrate driving skills and ability
Requirements : Is capable of working independently, without constant supervision. Must be 21 years of age per company policy.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : Has one current valid commercial drivers license (CDL) with requisite endorsements (appropriate class A, B, C, D) for type / size vehicle hired to drive.
Meets all of the qualifications and requirement of and is not disqualified under, the United States Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Parts 383 and 391
In the course of performing this job the employee is required to :
- Drive trucks, and / or other equipment
- Be around moving equipment and / or machinery
- Be exposed to marked changes in temperature or humidity
- Overtime is required on a routine basis
Post Offer :
- Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation as demonstrated by passing the requirements of a Company administered DOT physical examination, including a drug screen
- Must pass a Company administered physical performance test
- Subject to random drug / alcohol tests as required by DOT regulations.
