Job Objective :
Under the administrative direction of the Cardiac Services Manager, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the nursing care of patients, guided by policies and procedures of the hospital.
The Registered Nurse will provide a leadership role based on unit practice.
Duties and Responsibilities :
A. Circulate
- Prepares patients for procedures, including explanation of procedure.
- Assess charts for completeness
- Assessment of patient during procedure
- Monitors and administers medications
- Prepares / verifies procedures reports for completeness
- Post procedural patient and family teaching
B. Scrubs
- Operates technical equipment in area, safely, efficiently and accurately
- Assist physician during procedures
- Transports patient to and from cardiac cath lab
- Give report to RN receiving patients from cath lab
B. Monitoring
- Operates cardiac catheterization hemodynamic recording system
- Monitors patient during diagnostic and interventional procedures
Non-Essential Duties :
- Billing
- Tracks departmental and physician statistics
- Sends films and reports to physicians as needed
- Schedules procedures
- Answers telephones
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Knowledge
- Knowledge of Nursing Process
- Knowledgeable regarding current nursing practices and procedures
- Knowledgeable of Patient Rights
- Knowledge of 12 Lead EKG interpretations
- Knowledge of vascular anatomy
- Knowledge of contrast media and the appropriate usage
- Knowledge of supplies used for various invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures
- Knowledge of Aseptic technique
- Knowledge of hospital computer systems
Skills
- Understanding of radiographic views used in coronary, visceral, peripheral, and cerebral angiography
- Skills to provide emergency management of patients
Abilities
- Ability to set up table for procedure
- Ability to perform procedural sedation
- Ability to assist physician during procedure
- Ability to function under pressure and meet time parameters
- Ability to operate technical equipment

Education and Experience :
Education
- ASN or diploma from Certified Nursing program
- RCIS preferred
Experience
- Critical Care / ER experience preferred.
- Dysrhythmia course
- Recent Cath Lab experience preferred.
Required Licensure and / or Certifications :
- BLS and ACLS
- Registered Nursing License

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :
- Work is performed in a normal hospital setting; primarily in a lab setting
- The department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Work is performed as a team, requiring lifting, pulling, pushing and standing for prolonged time periods.
- Requires the use of lead aprons during procedures with approximate weight of 10bs
