The Assistant Director of the Center for Healthy Neighborhoods (CHN) oversees the daily operations and management of the facility.

This is a key position that assists in the planning, development and execution of programs and events for the community (school and residential), office management activities (including purchasing and budget management), and ensuring compliance with university, city, county, and state rules and regulations.

  • Support Executive Director, key members of the Dean’s office such as the Director of Development, Senior Research Development Officer, faculty, and community partners to develop activities to meet Center deliverables.
  • Create, implement, and enforce policies, procedures, in compliance with CSUF Auxiliary Services, California State University, City, County, and State rules and regulations.
  • Participate in the staff hiring process (including drafting position descriptions and interviewing) and selecting interns and volunteers.
  • Participate in the process to hire / recommend CHN consultants.
  • Coordinate and delegate duties and responsibility to staff, interns, and volunteers to implement CHN activities (e.g., research, education, community outreach, training).
  • Provide input in the evaluation of staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Monitor and approve timesheets and schedules of staff and student assistants.
  • Identify and report facility maintenance issues and coordinate with the University and City to address those issues.
  • Coordinate with the University and City regarding CHN facility use and reservations.
  • Assist the Executive Director with oversight / and or completion of financial and human resources related forms and processes for all funds sources in collaboration with Center, Dean’s Office, and Auxiliary Services Corporation (ASC) staff.

15% Partnerships and Collaboration with Community Agencies, University, and City Agencies

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day interactions with community members and program participants.
  • Plan and execute community events, workshops, and outreach activities that align with CHN’s goals.
  • Work with the Executive Director to maintain and grow relationships with local organizations, ensuring effective collaboration at the operational level.

10% Supervise Staff, Volunteers & Interns

  • Ensure staff, volunteers, and interns perform their duties aligning with organizational goals.
  • Offer regular support, coaching, and professional development to enhance team member’s skills and career growth.
  • Assess and draft performance evaluations to provide constructive feedback and setting clear goals for improvement.
  • Regularly update the executive director on team performance, challenges, and accomplishments, and recommend necessary adjustments / improvements.

10% Documentation of Center Outcomes and Audits

  • Keep detailed records for various CHN reports.
  • Comply with University, City, County, and State Audits.
  • Develop and maintain database of internship positions for the University’s Center for Internship and Community Engagement (CICE).
  • Develop and maintain client database in compliance with confidentiality protocols.

5% Research Support

  • Provide logistical and operational support for research projects conducted at the CHN, including data collection and coordination with academic partners.
  • Oversee the organization and maintenance of program-related data, ensuring accuracy for reporting and research purposes.

5% Other Duties

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of professional work experience in higher education, social services, student affairs or government.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and recommendations to management.
  • Ability to provide project leadership to ensure successful and timely completion.
  • Ability to coordinate many different tasks, determine relative importance of each, set deadlines, prioritize, and complete projects accordingly.
  • Ability to apply a high degree of judgement, discretion and initiative in coordinating assignments and initiatives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with internal staff, campus staff, students, internal stakeholders, and external organizations / agencies.
  • Demonstrated collaborative leadership skills and ability to coordinate messaging across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • High level of integrity, trustworthiness, respect, attention to detail, ability to research options, make sound decisions, and handle sensitive issues with highly visible projects.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of higher education stakeholders in a politically charged environment.
  • Ability to organize and accomplish work independently.
  • Strong proficiency in all areas of communication : oral, written, and interpersonal.
  • Position requires working outside of normal business hours.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.

EDUCATION

Minimum Master’s degree in public administration, public health, social work, human services, or related field.

LICENSE / CERTIFICATIONS

A valid California Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 15-20 pounds of objects / material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
