Data Center Specialist
The Data Center Specialist will be responsible to deliver a very high quality of service based on operations best practice across the firms US Data Centers.
This role entails prompt service request fulfilment, patch cable management, with an attention to detail and quality, as well as a working knowledge of Data Center Information Management (DCiM).
Principal Responsibilities
- Service request fulfilment and execution that meets or exceeds expected service levels and physical installation quality
- Maintain 100% accuracy of assets tracked in the firms DCiM tool
- Server HW repair scheduling and coordination with the firms internal clients, infrastructure peers, and Multi-Vendor Services (MVS) partner
- Maintain an accurate inventory of network asset console connections to aid the network team in timely network troubleshooting efforts
- Execute scheduled changes in a timely manner without undue risk to the firm
- Efficient and effective management of collocation service providers to meet the firms needs
- Deliver on various new and improvement projects, such as IT equipment upgrades and replacements throughout the infrastructure and Data Center lifecycle
- Communicate regularly and clearly with manager, peers, and team members throughout the organization
- Rack level capacity management
- Identify gaps in Data Center operational documentation and take the initiative to create documentation for use by the global Data Center team
- Track issues and trends and whether there is a systemic issues and escalate to the necessary infrastructure teams
- Manage risk associated with removable media, and more specifically, the potential misplacement or loss of such media
- Knowledge transfer and training of new data center technicians in the use of the firms processes and tools
Qualifications / Skills Required
- BS or BA in technical field or commensurate experience
- Thorough understanding of hot and cold aisle dynamics, and IT equipment air-flow requirements
- Thorough understanding of patch cabling and optics types and gender
- Experience with rack integration of servers, storage equipment, network switches, a variety of IT appliances, and proper patch cabling
- Experience with DCIM or DCIM like tools
- Ability to translate Data Center requirements into effective solutions
- Ability to implement detail-oriented designs
- Excellent communication skills
- Must possess excellent time and project management skills
- Experience supervising, training, mentoring, and leading other professionals
- Familiarity with the Data Center Marketplace
- Proficient in office automation tools such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point and Word)
- 10+ years of experience in Infrastructure Technology
- Effective team player
