Pharmacy Intern (Part Time/3.5 Hours Per Week)

Job Summary :

I.Purpose for the Position :

Under the general supervision and work direction of the staff pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern performs pharmacy-related functions, in compliance with departmental policies and procedures that provide optimal pharmaceutical care.

Job Description

I. Essential Responsibilities :

Note : While these are considered the essential responsibilities of the position, other duties or activities may be required.

Develops an accurate list of current "home" medications using all available resources.

Conducts patient and / or caregiver interviews

Contacts community pharmacies, mail-order pharmacies or other sources of medications.

Utilizes other computer resources available

Discusses the list with a pharmacist for approval. Enters the list into the hospital computer system according to established procedures.

Assists other health care professionals with Medication Reconciliation issues. Provides general assistance to pharmacist staff in completing clinical activities.

6. Performs miscellaneous duties and follows guidelines and policies / procedures.

Uses appropriate judgment; refers problems to a pharmacist as needed. Organizes time effectively to meet changing workload demands.

Demonstrates a consistent level of performance.

III. Supplemental Job Responsibilities

Performs basic tasks of other staff during low staff periods within the boundaries of their training and education. Answers the telephone on the third ring or before using a customer-friendly voice;

refers the call to a pharmacist if it is outside the scope of their usual responsibilities. Is able to manage multiple priorities.

Assists in training new employees and students as requested. Wears clothing that is clean, professional and appropriate.

Knows and follows hospital and departmental procedures; knows location of hospital and departmental policy / procedure manuals.

Projects a professional image for the department.

V. Qualifications

High school diploma; Current valid State of Indiana Board of Pharmacy license as Pharmacy Intern; Experience in hospital and / or community pharmacy highly desirable,but not required.
