Stars Behavioral Health Group (SBHG) and its subsidiaries deliver a full continuum of quality community- and facility-based behavioral health and social services programs, as well as special education nonpublic schools and the Stars Training Academy which provides clinical practices trainings throughout the USA, as well as for SBHG agencies’ staffs.

Intensive services include day treatment, crisis stabilization, crisis residential treatment, and acute and subacute inpatient treatment.

Providing services at over 50 locations, SBHG provides clinically sound services through contracts with county mental health, child welfare, and juvenile justice departments, as well as with public school districts throughout California.

SBHG has 60 locations in 12 counties; 2000+ employees; and over $230M in total contracted funding. In 2024, SBHG reports touching the lives of over 40,000 adults, children and families and offers 85 programs and 27 inpatient / crisis / residential facilities.

In 2010, SBHG became an (ESOP) Employee Stock Ownership Program and is 100% owned by its employees.

The Vice President and Chief Operating Officer manages the overall operation of the facilities and programs of SBHG and fulfills the management service agreement with an affiliated non-profit agency.

The COO will work with the CEO, other officers, and an executive team to set company performance goals and develop and implement strategies, procedures and business plans needed to enhance company growth, financial results, and other performance goals.

This leader will also represent SBHG and its agencies and programs to governmental agencies, provider and advocacy associations, the Board of Directors, and the community.

He / she may be appointed to serve on the Board.

Key Selection Criteria for this position includes the following :

  • Five+ years of executive level healthcare management experience.
  • Behavioral healthcare management, inpatient or residential treatment, and experience across various populations and age groups preferred.
  • Strategic thinker combined with strong skills in financial management and analysis, budgeting, and report development.
  • Understands or is able to expeditiously learn and understand federal, state, county, and local public policies, laws and regulations related to behavioral healthcare, child welfare and other social services, education, and other fields relevant to the business and how they impact the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills including writing, editing and public speaking. Excellent analytical, entrepreneurial, and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrates a level of interpersonal confidence and cross-cultural sensitivity which engenders trust and respect in others.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Administration, Psychology / Social Work or equivalent related field is required.

Salary for this role is anticipated to range from $275,000 to $350,000 commensurate with experience. A generous benefits package is also provided including an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
