MAMMOGRAPHY TECHNICIAN POSITION SUMMARY

The Mammography Technician is responsible for performing mammograms to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases in patients under the direction of a physician.

This role requires high technical skill, attention to detail, and a deep commitment to patient care.

MAMMOGRAPHY TECHNICIAN ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Perform diagnostic mammographic imaging procedures in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures.
• Prepare patients for examinations by explaining the procedure, positioning patients appropriately, and adhering to safety and compliance protocols.
• Operate mammography equipment to acquire images of the highest quality for review by physicians.
• Evaluate the technical quality of images, ensuring they meet the criteria set by the radiologist, and retake images as necessary.
• Maintain patient records and add medical notes related to the mammography procedure.
• Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare team members to discuss diagnostic procedures and results.
• Implement and adhere to health and safety standards to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Maintain mammography equipment, performing regular checks and reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate service provider.
• Participate in quality assurance programs and activities to ensure the highest levels of service delivery.
• Educate patients on breast health, including guidelines for self-examination and information about the importance of regular mammography.

MAMMOGRAPHY TECHNICIAN MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Must be a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) and certified in mammography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent.
• Proficiency in using mammography imaging equipment and technology.
• Strong understanding of radiology / medical terminology and pathology.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to explain complex information to patients clearly and compassionately.
