Downtown Streets Team (DST) is looking for a passionate and outgoing Director in Santa Clara County who is ready to help us end homelessness through the dignity of work and the power of community.

SUMMARY :

The Director of a regional program is responsible for ensuring the delivery and overall success of an entire region of programming for DST.

The Director is responsible for the direct supervision of the Program Managers. A competent Director must demonstrate a broad knowledge of program management principles, fundraising, stakeholder development, HR principles, financial acumen and more.

WHAT YOU'LL DO : Operations

Operations

  • Supervise Project Managers for full employment life cycle (hiring, onboarding, performance management, etc.) of three Santa Clara County-based Program Managers (PMs)
  • Ensure successful messaging of DST policies, initiatives and announcements are being provided to direct reports and all regional employees
  • Provide meaningful and frequent job coaching and training to all direct reports as it relates to their role and responsibilities as an Employment Specialist, Case Manager, Administrative staff and Project Managers to include;

a deeper understanding of their role, addressing needs and encouraging innovative ideas. Also provides frequent communication with PM’s regarding the coaching of others

  • Provide ongoing opportunities to create greater awareness and support of DST’s Vision, Values and Culture
  • Develop and maintain orientation schedule and Introductory Period training plan for new staff
  • Review roles and responsibilities as outlines in the Managers Manual, with all new Project Managers
  • Ensure timely submission of timecards, and all financial reporting for all direct reports
  • Thoroughly review all proposals, contracts and verify all contractual requirements are within the scope of the program and approve for signature
  • Review annual budget with PM’s and submit regional budget for approval. Able to budget independent of their supervisor
  • Review monthly financial statements with to develop and maintain monthly spending and allocation plans with finance department

Programs

  • Act as the face to the greater community, by representing the Team to all existing and potential partners including local government agencies, other social service providers, community-based groups, private business, and other stakeholders
  • Maintain Team culture and accountability by working through issues in a respectful, compassionate, yet firm manner
  • Supports PM in the daily hands-on management of large work experience team of unhoused individuals in multiple locations, or a single location, with growth expected within 6-12 months
  • Effectively track and report project data to contractor and general public, including government funders
  • Maintain regular communication with other staff regarding team goals, potential partnerships, projects, and new ideas
  • Support PM’s with contract compliance and goals
  • Seek out supportive health, housing and employment services and pathways for the program
  • Develop new projects within the region
  • Form Advisory Council, manage and chair regularly scheduled meetings
  • Visit meetings for Team, staff, partners and donors throughout the County
  • Fill in for PMs during vacancies or for those on PTO / leave

Development

Expertly represent DST to all existing and potential partners including; local government agencies, other social service providers, community-based groups, private businesses and other stakeholders.

Is a highly skilled presenter to large stakeholder groups

  • Regionally engage business community through Business Improvement District, Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations and events
  • Research and apply for new partnerships and funding opportunities
  • Maintain and grow state and county relationships that include funding within the area of responsibility
  • Establish close working relationships with local community, business and governmental partners to allow for collaborative development of services and new ideas
  • Identify and pursue new funding sources in order to increase funding and expand service
  • Engage with individual donors to meet fundraising objectives

COMMUNITY SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SANTA CLARA COUNTY :

  • Manage a regional budget of up to $2,000,000.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of a volunteer work program of at least 90 Team Members on at least five contracts, which operate at various times, seven days a week
  • Support Program Managers in the operation of three community programs in conjunction with the cities of Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, San Jose and Santa Clara County
  • Report as required to 10+ local government partners
  • Assist Development staff in Santa Clara County-based fundraising initiatives
  • Manage three Project Managers

WHAT YOU'LL NEED :

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience in Social Service or related field
  • 5 years of experience directly supervising and coaching staff
  • Ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow
  • Excellent listening comprehension, written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific method
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs
  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following : Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and lifting (up to 25 lbs.)
  • Observation and problem solving; hearing, seeing, reasoning and decision making
  • Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations for budgeting
