We're looking for a seasoned and inspiring Automation Team Lead to join Oceaneering Mobile Robotics (OMR) at a pivotal moment for the business.

Oceaneering is building and investing in a mobile robotics portfolio and OMR is one of the key pieces in that technology and product roadmap.

You will lead a group of engineers, transforming our project execution team, improving our project processes, develop our engineers and engineering capability, and help to define the needs of the business.

Your leadership will help shape the culture of design, execution and deployment of engineered projects at OMR and in the mobile robotics industry.

You will champion the change for standards and processes focused on our engineering solutions, in close coordination with the software, hardware, project engineering teams and production teams.

The ideal candidate for this role has a strong background in an Engineering discipline with preferred experience in designing robotic / automated systems for commercial applications.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL

  • Driving operational excellence and common ways of working across the business in partnership with the other functions and in line with the business priorities and Engineering strategy.
  • Supervise Engineers in our offices North America.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance;

rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • With your engineering teams, contribute to the development, execution and deployment of system solutions and products ensuring that Oceaneering leads the Mobile Robotics Industry.
  • Establishes and maintains credible, professional relationships with customers during project execution and service / maintenance phases of our delivered system solutions.
  • Oversee all aspects of our projects including the coordination, testing and integration of the software products with the hardware products and system solutions.
  • Cultivate a positive and respectful working environment within teams and throughout the organization.
  • Provide work direction and technical leadership for supervised employees.
  • Review progress and evaluate results of work accomplished by self and others.
  • Independently direct the development and completion of highly complex engineering projects.
  • Review and approve objectives, schedules, and estimates for difficult assignments.
  • Stay current with emerging automation technologies and industry best practices.
  • Analyze existing processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree qualified in an engineering discipline mechanical, electrical or software (or relevant combination of education and experience).
  • 3+ years' experience in the system development lifecycle from concept to industrialization through to retirement.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • System design experience, preferably in controls or robotics.
  • Good understanding of engineering processes, documentation, and data systems.
  • Experience with designing to regulatory standards, CE, ANSI etc.
  • Excellent people skills. The ability to set clear expectations, motivate others and to resolve conflicts.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 : 2015).
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good practical experience of risk management.
  • Deep understanding of relevant processes, including agile development processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communications in English are essential.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally required. Estimated amount of travel is 25% of the year.

DESIRED

  • Fluency, written and oral in either the German or Dutch languages.
  • Experienced in leading a team.
  • Experience within the Automation Industry, Material Handling Solutions, Machinery & Industrial Engineering, or related industries.
  • Experience working with AGV systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial norms such as ISA 18, ANSI B56.5, ISO 3691-4.
  • Experience in the Automotive industry.

Additional Information

This position is Hybrid - Remote and will require commuting to a designated office. Hybrid work schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business need.
