RTI International is recruiting for a Senior Research Public Health Analyst in Gender and Substance and Alcohol Use within the Substance Use, Gender and Applied Research Program in the Center for Health Behavior & Implementation Science.

This individual will be responsible for advancing complex research to improve public health outcomes among marginalized populations including adolescents, pregnant people, and sexual minority groups.

Specifically, they will engage in marketing and proposal writing to expand the program's private and publicly funded research portfolio.

They will have expertise to plan, win and manage projects of significant value; write significant reports; and present papers at professional meetings and conferences;

and identify ways to enhance or expand existing studies. The expert analyst will manage their own projects of moderate technical complexity and contract value, and perform work with minimal supervision, but adequate support, from other experienced project leaders or experts.

They will also lead scientific stature activities (e.g., peer reviewed publications and presentations) and assist early and mid-career staff in career development.

This position can be based in one of the following regional offices : Research Triangle Park, NC, or Washington DC. Teleworking also will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Director or Principal investigator on large-scale studies.
  • Supervise research including overseeing study design, data collection, data analysis and reporting.
  • Manage research budgets, contracts, and subcontracts.
  • Manage staff capacity and performance.
  • Serve as the principal point of contact with clients.
  • Lead proposals and grant applications, developing proposals with high technical complexity requiring application of relevant gender and feminist principles and strategies.
  • Increase scientific stature in gender inequality and HIV by publishing papers in leading peer-reviewed journals and participating in professional meetings and associations.
  • Mentor early to mid-career scientists.
  • Lead professional development activities to increase capacity for and understanding of gender and HIV strategies and methods.
  • Participate in cross-institute initiatives and external collaborations that require gender expertise.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Doctorate in public health, health services research, psychology, sociology or related field and a minimum of 8 years of applied research experience in gender studies in the healthcare, public health, or social service sector.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting applied biobehavioral research and implementation science trials.
  • Demonstrated expertise in gender research and advanced research methods.
  • Experience in the fields of behavioral health (substance and alcohol use, violence, HIV), mental health, community health, gender, population health, and / or maternal infant health.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-stakeholder initiatives and partner collaborations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear presentations about data and complex issues and the ability to successfully communicate with clients.
  • Demonstrated scientific stature in peer-review publications and service to professional organizations.
  • Experience in mentoring trainees and other staff.
  • Ability to meet frequent, multiple, and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to win and lead large sized projects or study teams with six or more staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Engaging Inclusively, a RTI Lead Forward behavior.
  • Ability to travel within the US and globally.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Proven success of securing large contracts or grant funding from state or federal agencies (e.g., DHHS, NIH, NIJ, CMS, CDC, SAMHSA, HRSA, VA, DOD), PCORI, or foundations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in advanced mixed methods research.
