About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our diagnostic imaging team. You will work closely with physicians and other medical professionals to provide high-quality imaging and contribute to the patient care process.

Key Responsibilities :

Perform Nuclear Medicine Procedures :

  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals (radioactive drugs) to patients in accordance with physician orders, ensuring the proper dose and type of radiopharmaceutical.
  • Perform imaging studies using specialized equipment such as gamma cameras, PET scanners, or SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) to obtain images of organs, tissues, and bones.
  • Conduct diagnostic nuclear medicine scans for various procedures including bone scans, cardiac imaging, lung scans, and oncology-related imaging.

Patient Preparation :

  • Explain the nuclear medicine procedure to patients, addressing their questions and providing reassurance, particularly in regard to radiation safety and the imaging process.
  • Ensure patients understand the need to remain still during the procedure and instruct them on any pre-scan preparation (e.

g., fasting, drinking water).

Position patients properly on imaging equipment to obtain the best possible images for diagnostic purposes.

Radioactive Safety and Compliance :

  • Follow radiation safety protocols to minimize patient, staff, and public exposure to radioactive materials.
  • Adhere to established safety guidelines and regulations regarding the storage, handling, and disposal of radioactive substances.
  • Maintain accurate records of radiopharmaceutical use and doses administered, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
  • Monitor patients for any potential reactions or side effects related to the radiopharmaceuticals and respond appropriately.

Image Acquisition and Interpretation :

Operate imaging equipment, including gamma cameras, PET scanners, and SPECT systems, to capture high-quality images of the area of interest (e.

g., bones, organs, tissues).

  • Ensure image quality is optimal and resolve any issues with the imaging process (e.g., adjusting equipment, repositioning patients).
  • Record accurate and complete data and send images for interpretation by radiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, or physicians.

Patient Care and Comfort :

  • Ensure patient comfort during the procedure, providing clear instructions and offering support as needed.
  • Monitor patient reactions during and after the procedure, particularly with regard to any potential side effects from the radiopharmaceuticals.

Collaboration with Healthcare Team :

  • Collaborate with nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to review images, discuss diagnoses, and plan treatment strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with medical staff regarding patient conditions, procedure progress, and any issues that arise.

Quality Control and Equipment Maintenance :

  • Perform regular quality control checks and maintenance on imaging equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly.
  • Troubleshoot and report any malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate personnel for repairs or service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the nuclear medicine department and ensure compliance with infection control protocols.

Documentation and Reporting :

  • Document and report all nuclear medicine procedures accurately, including patient details, the type and amount of radiopharmaceutical administered, and any adverse reactions.
  • Maintain and update patient records, following healthcare regulations and confidentiality standards (HIPAA).

Continuing Education :

  • Stay current with advancements in nuclear medicine technologies, imaging techniques, and radiation safety protocols.
  • Participate in ongoing training, certifications, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in the field.
