Position description

Summary :

UC Merced Extension Teacher Preparation Program is currently seeking 3 UCTK Regional Advisors to support the Los Angeles, Merced, and Bay Area regions a part of the University of California TK Residency Program.

The Residency Advisor will work with the Credential Analyst, Director of Educational Programs, Regional Teacher Preparation Teams and various school districts to coordinate TK Teacher Resident placements for Clinical Practice, complete 12 observations per term, monitor successful completion of 24 ECE units, and preliminary multiple subject credential requirements.

In addition, the Residency Advisor will monitor the successful completion of Teacher Resident required assessments i.e. CSET, RICA, & CalTPA 1 & 2.

This strong connection between Practicum instruction and practice in the residency classroom will help to ensure residents’ development into equity-oriented TK educators who are deeply connected with their communities and their successful completion of the UC Teacher Residency program.

Appointees to these positions may be offered an additional teaching title for an additional 25% FTE.

Regional Advisor Responsibilities :

  • Promote and coordinate UCTK program classes for 24 ECE units & preliminary multiple subject credential.
  • Support instructors for Clinical Practice courses EDUC X 303 & EDUC X 305 with daily, weekly, monthly contact.
  • Conduct informational sessions for UCTK candidates enrolled in EDUC X303 and EDUC X305 about the course requirements
  • Provide outreach to school districts and county offices about teacher resident candidate placements and support Mentor / Cooperating teachers
  • Correspond with districts to manage Clinical Practice partnerships / establish MOU’s
  • Advise UCTK Teacher Residents about program requirements, meet every term or as necessary
  • Resolve problems related to Clinical Practice placements in a timely manner
  • Provide information for recruiting prospective Teacher Residents
  • Regularly meet and coordinate with TPP administrators.
  • Attend required monthly meetings with Regional Coordinators and TPP administrators
  • Participate in Teacher Practitioner Advisory Board (TPAB) and other required meetings
  • Attend departmental meetings and education stakeholder meetings as needed
  • Conduct online and / or face-to-face orientation workshops
  • Conduct teacher candidate end of term meetings TPE Continuum and IDP
  • Collect midterm progress reports from UCTK Instructors for continuous improvement
  • Provide training, formative feedback, and support Teacher Residents
  • Further professional growth through continuing education, attending workshops and conferences
  • Stay informed of exemplary Transitional Kindergarten instructional strategies and current research specific to effective teaching and learning
  • Provide instructional support for online learning and virtual settings
  • Attend workshops, staffing, in-service, conferences, or other related professional meetings as needed to improve the UCTK Teacher Residency program and professional competence
  • Operate a personal computer and other technology devices to provide Teacher Residents, strategies on how to use technology and software to meet the educational, social and behavioral needs of students
  • Note : this is a one-year, renewable contract position contingent upon grant funding.

Program : Qualifications

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

Education :

  • 24-semester units of Early Child Education or Child Development from an accredited institution of higher education and / or completion of an accredited TK teacher development program. (Required)
  • MA in Education, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field. (Required)
  • Regionally located in either Los Angeles, Merced, or the Bay Area and / or willing to travel to assigned region. (Required)

Credential :

Current Clear CA Multiple Subject Credential with CLAD authorization (Required)

Experience :

  • Minimum of 5 years working with Kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten, and or preschool. (Required)
  • Regionally located in either Los Angeles, Merced, or the Bay Area and / or willing to travel to assigned region. (Required)

Role / Skill Requirements :

  • Knowledgeable of requirements for Clinical Practice as outlined by the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing (Required)
  • Knowledgeable on Policies, Procedures, and Clinical Practice Handbooks as outlined by the Teacher Preparation Program (Preferred)
  • Knowledgeable in using word processing software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Required)
  • Understand through experience the California content standards, including Common Core, NGSS, CA Art Standards (Required)
  • Understand the importance of the California Teaching Performance Expectations (Required)
  • Knowledgeable about the current educational theory and culturally responsive instructional practice for diverse students (Required)
  • Knowledgeable about support strategies for English language learners and students with learning needs (Required)
  • Knowledgeable about strategies and techniques for program assessment and evaluation (Required)
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills in both online and in-person settings (Required)

Preferred qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years working with Kindergarten, TK, or preschool students.
  • Terminal degree in education, curriculum, or closely related field (e.g., Ed.D., Ph.D.)
  • Knowledgeable on Policies, Procedures, and Clinical Practice Handbooks as outlined by the Teacher Preparation Program
  • Understand the cultural and linguistic diversity of students in California.
  • Pedagogical expertise and strong content knowledge.
