Position Summary
The Plumber / Building Technician installs, maintains, and repairs pipes and fixtures associated with heating, cooling, water distribution, and sanitation systems.
Technician performs semi-skilled maintenance / repair and remodeling tasks independently or by assisting skilled craft persons / technicians.
As well as being responsible for maintenance and repair work including, but not limited to, audio visual work and connections, painting, and general building preventative maintenance and repairs.
Responsibilities and Duties
Plumber :
- Interprets blueprints and building specifications to map layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials
- Install pipes and fixtures including, but not limited to, toilets, sinks, urinals, and showers; also responsible for checking water supply connections
- Repair and assembles fittings, valves, service pipes, and drinking fountains for installation
- Modifies length of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing materials as needed for a building
- Uses saws and pipe cutters as necessary
- Test and repair plumbing systems for leaks, obstructions and other problems
- Analyses problem and identifies appropriate tools and materials for repair
- Performs inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn parts
- Install and maintain hot water heating systems
- Cut openings for pipes in walls, floors, and ceilings
- Develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures
Building Technician :
- Responsible for turning on all lighting when needed
- Lay building materials including, but not limited to, bricks, tiles, block, gypsum, and wall board utilizing specialized tools and equipment
- Repair and install flooring including, but not limited to, wood, carpet, tile, and linoleum
- Perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and remodeling of facility
- Perform rough and finished woodworking repair and maintenance
- Repair items that include, but are not limited to, light switches, receptacles, glass, doors, door checks, locks, window frames, tables, and chairs
- Paint a variety of surfaces both inside and outside the building utilizing brushes, spray guns, and rollers
- Perform plaster work and patch plastering on surfaces
- Transport, set-up, breakdown, and install items including, but not limited to, staging, decks, and, equipment for events
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must hold all accredited certifications for plumbing position
- 3-5 years relevant experience required
- Required to supply tools of the trade
- Must have thorough knowledge of plumbing methods and techniques
- Proficiency in the use of plumbing hand tools and other special tools, including, but not limited to, pipe cutters, reamers, threading machines, sewer tapes, and cables required
- Must be able to read, understand, and perform work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints
- Ability to work weekends, evening hours, or holidays as needed and assigned
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing and walking required
- Must be able to lift heavy equipment (50 pounds or more) on a frequent basis
- May be required to work in a kneeling, stooping, bending, or prone position for a prolonged period of time on a frequent basis
- Have far visual acuity, near visual acuity and peripheral vision
- Climb ladders, scaffolding, steps and ramps safely and in a timely manner
- Perform their classification duties safely
- Work in outdoor weather conditions
- Operate a vehicle safely
- Have gross manipulation and fine manipulation of hands, tools and equipment
