Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is recruiting for a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager in Interior Design within the Facilities Services Department (FSD).

This position is responsible for reviewing or designing all campus interior furnishing plans, designs, and selections for new construction, renovations, and remodel projects;

and managing interior design projects for UNR.

Project Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Manage multiple projects involving departments, outside architectural firms and vendors;
  • Prepare bidding information and administer contracts for consultants, contractors and outside vendors;
  • Review and process change orders, requests for information, and general construction correspondence to ensure project schedule is met;
  • Provide project close-out documentation;
  • Assist in researching and supporting departmental planning presentations;
  • Provide interior design drawings and color board presentations used in the selection of interior finish materials and furnishings;
  • Assist in the review and recommendations to Facilities Maintenance Services staff on all flooring replacement projects;
  • Meet with departments, deans, and chairs to assist with project cost estimates, plans, specifications, architecture / interior design, bidding, construction management, space utilization, interior furnishings and finishes design, bidding, and installation;
  • Provide interior design consulting services;
  • Provide research and support for departmental planning;
  • Provide recommendations regarding yearly updates to campus classroom furnishings and equipment;
  • Develop and maintain interior design as-built records for all UNR spaces;
  • Establish and develop campus interior design parameters;

Revise and maintain the web-based University of Nevada, Reno’s Design and Construction Standards; and

Other duties as assigned.

Senior Project Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Manage multiple large-scale projects over $1 million dollars involving outside interior design firms, general contractors, vendors and state agencies;
  • Conduct daily site visits to the project to review progress and ensure compliance;
  • Plan and track capital improvement programs, deferred maintenance programs, and construction and maintenance improvement planning programs;
  • Interpret and enforce building codes and ordinances;
  • Act as a liaison between State Public Works Division, State inspectors, campus inspectors, and construction teams to administer the daily field report;
  • Create complex interior design plans and specifications for institutional facilities utilizing knowledge of life safety codes and zoning requirements;
  • Meet with departments, deans, and chairs to review scope of work, assist with project cost estimates, plans, specifications and other information regarding architectural design, bidding, and construction management, and ensure scope complies with campus standards;

Provide design and plan review; and

Other duties as assigned.

This position reports to the Director of Planning and Programming Services.

Required Qualifications

Project Manager

Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related work experience; OR

Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience

Related Experience : Progressively responsible experience as a project manager for small to medium size construction projects.

A valid Class C driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Senior Project Manager

Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years of related work experience; OR

Master’s Degree and three (3) years of related work experience

Related Experience : Progressively responsible experience as a project manager for large, complex, and major construction projects.

A valid Class C driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Must be licensed or have ability to obtain licenses within six months of appointment by the Nevada State Board of Architecture, Interior Design and Residential Design (NSBAIDRD) to practice architecture or interior design in the State of Nevada.

Physical Demands

This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing and / or pulling, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and / or a negligible amount to move objects.

Schedule and Travel Requirements

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Occasional evenings and weekends required in support of the operational schedule. May require travel on a limited basis.

This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, or closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
