Job Description

About the Role

As a member of the Security Infrastructure team at The New York Times, you will contribute to various technical projects that touch teams across the organization including product engineering, licensing, marketing, and advertising.

You will develop infrastructure solutions and security best practices that can be recommended by our partner teams within Security Architecture.

You will also be a part of the Security Architecture team, which is responsible for building platforms that ensure the various systems at The New York Times continue to operate reliably and securely.

You will cross-train in these areas and gain experience working on security tools used at scale across the company. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager in the Information Security organization.

This position is based in New York

Responsibilities :

  • You will design, develop, and maintain infrastructure for security tooling used across the department and organization.
  • You will proactively monitor and identify areas of improvement to our security infrastructure and other hosting solutions.
  • Be part of a cross-organizational team responsible for designing and promoting secure architectures and development best practices.
  • Define best practices and establish them as defaults for developers across the organization; contribute to department objectives by writing code, creating documentation, and designing and maintaining systems.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications :

  • 3-5+ years experience in DevOps and / or the security engineering space.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Python or Go, and DevOps tools and practices(i.e. Terraform).
  • Experience running production systems in one or more cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and containerization technologies(e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with CI / CD, Git Principles, and command line.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Security / Compliance or DevOps certifications.
  • Prior experience with HashiCorp Vault / Consul.
  • Understanding of software supply chain security principles, including dependency management.

This role may require limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule will be determined when you join, taking into account team size and other variables.

The annual base pay range for this role is between $120,000.00 and $130,000.00.
