Our ideal Director of Software Engineering will be an integral contributor to the current and next generation of our app.
You'll be working on multiple projects with multiple teams to continue making us the #1 HR Software for SMB business. If you get a kick out of solving problems and building beautiful world-class software, you will love BambooHR.
You will :
- Direct a set of features of our product's software engineering group. Multiple teams, engineering managers, and architects report to you.
- Demonstrate leadership and patience through regular coaching and mentoring in individual and team settings. You'll need to love coaching and mentoring Leaders.
- Consult with leaders within Product Development (Product Design, Product Management, QA, and IT), as well as outside of Product Development pertinent to the area of focus, to help your managers and tech leads explore and deliver software solutions.
- Continually embrace accountability in team and individual performance (yours and others) in sprint goals and quarterly Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
- Work closely with architects and platform teams to understand technical / architectural hurdles in your team's scope and prioritize solutions and direction.
- Participate in Engineering department hiring efforts.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our systems and processes.

What You Need to Get the Job Done (Minimum Qualifications)
- 2+ years of heavy experience focused on data and analytics software products
- 15+ years of experience in software development.
- 10+ years of experience in SaaS and SMB.
- 5+ years of real-world, demonstrable technical leadership.
- 2+ years of Software Director level experience
- Object-oriented development experience.
- MySQL / MSSQL - both query language and database structure / design
- Version control software, preferably Git.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
What Will Make Us REALLY Love you (Preferred Qualifications)
- Big Data Product experience. Working with reporting or analytic products. Figuring out how to build complex data representations.
- Proficiency in documenting processes and monitoring performance metrics.
- Knowledge and experience of internal business tools and how that affects how the software works.
- Architectural experience and expertise.
- Services development in a language like PHP, Python, Java, or C#, and a desire to work in PHP (7.4+)
- Experience in React, HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS
- Experience in developing Software-as-a-Service (fast release cycles that still support an existing user base)
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related degree or formal training in a related field.
