We are actively looking for a Mid to Senior level Rail Engineer to join our corporate transportation team. As part of the corporate transportation group, this position will provide track design engineering support for the Freight & Economic Development team's rail clients.

They will oversee and implement conceptual planning of rail facilities and track connections for new and expanding rail users.

This role will promote rail-inclusive development planning for industrial sites and parks accessible by the serving railroad and analyze industrial property and articulate technical development and design challenges to project stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities :

  • Oversee and manage rail related design projects from planning to conceptual design.
  • Collaborate with RED team staff members on rail-inclusive site planning and site marketing materials.
  • Adhere to freight rail engineering specifications and prepare preliminary cost estimates.
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
  • Advise clients with rail facility design, considering track geometry and capacity, safe rail car handling methods, and articulate rail-related operations.
  • Review schedule, cost variances, and assist with developing and implementing recommendations for corrective action.
  • Produce 2D concept plans and schematics and confidently communicate rail design options to the project team.
  • Produce 3D rail animations to visually represent rail operations which enhances our ability to visually communicate with clients and decision makers.
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance.
  • Coordinate the design and management of projects involving transportation in railroad and rail transit facilities and property.
  • Continually investigate RED team software packages and seek to ensure the team is utilizing the most cutting-edge technology on the market.
  • Self-driven individual who seeks opportunities to mentor junior staff members within the RED team.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in related field; required
  • 10+ years of experience in transportation / transit planning and environmental documentation; required
  • MicroStation / Geopak or AutoCAD / Civil 3D design software experience; required
  • 3-D Rendering Capabilities - 3DS Max, Blender, Corona Render
  • GIS ArcPro usage experience
  • Graphic Design- Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects
  • Microsoft Office software experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Class 1 railroads, commuter and transit agencies, AREMA, CPUC, FRA, and FTA design standards, manuals, requirements, and funding as well as local funding coordination.
  • Valid Driver's License and a clean driving record
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post-offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions :

Majority of work is field-based, which may necessitate climbing, navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.

Field work includes exposure to extreme heat, cold, or inclement weather. Ability to use standard office equipment.
