The Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life is charged with providing oversight and direction to recognized fraternity and sorority chapters on campus and affiliated students, advising one of our major councils (IFC or Panhellenic) and one of our Special Interest chapters.

This position will help implement best practices, policies and initiatives designed to enhance the overall growth and development of council and implement community wide programs.

The Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life will share responsibilities with the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life and Assistant Director for Multicultural Affairs for the day-to-day operations needed to support the FSL community.

This position requires evening and weekend hours.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Council Advisement

  • Actively advise the executive officers of one of the major councils (NPC or IFC) and hold regular one-on-one meetings with council leadership;
  • attend weekly executive council and general assembly meetings for the council and oversee any sponsored council programs and events;
  • meet bi-weekly with chapter presidents within assigned council plus chapter president for one Special Interest chapter; supervise the recruitment and intake efforts during formal and informal recruitment processes for assigned council / chapter to ensure the process is in accordance with appropriate National guidelines;
  • develop and facilitate educational workshops for council officers, general membership and chapter advisors addressing relevant student and community issues as needed;
  • collaborate with chapter advisors and international headquarters staff to advance the goals of each chapter and ensure organizations are complying with university and department policies;
  • help appropriately address and resolve conduct and risk management incidents; assist with the management of chapter portals on MocSync;

compile and distribute end of semester grade reports for assigned chapters.

Community Development

  • Serve as a member of the FSL Advisor Team; implement community wide programs to help foster a sense of support and community among all Fraternity & Sorority Life chapters;
  • partner with the Division of Advancement & Office of Alumni Affairs to initiate fundraising and alumni engagement opportunities for community;
  • cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with affiliated students, chapter and alumni advisers, regional leadership, corporation board officers, house directors, inter / national officers and headquarters, and community officials;

collaborate with the FSL Advisor Team to implement an accessibility initiative for council and community wide programs; assist with the recruitment / intake processes for councils and chapters not under direct responsibility.

Fraternity & Sorority Life Administrative Duties

Develop, implement, and enforce all University policies, including Fraternity and Sorority Life requirements around membership, reporting, academic excellence, etc.

compile and distribute community grade report at end of fall and spring semesters; manage FSL MocSync page including managing up to date roster, events, and all form submissions (i.

e. roster changes, academic release, new member packets, etc), assist with the development and implementation of all Fraternity and Sorority Life sponsored programs that impact the entire community (i.

e. performance based events, Advisor Trainings, New Member Risk Education Series, FSL Town Hall Meetings, Anti-Hazing efforts, etc.

  • lead FSL Town Hall efforts including coordinating space reservations, agenda, marketing, speakers, programs, training, strategic planning, and assessment;
  • partner with the FSL Advisor Team to develop the curriculum and facilitate the Fraternity and Sorority Life Emerging Leaders Institute and the Fraternity and Sorority Life Executive Leaders’ Summit for council and chapter officers;

help develop short-term, long-term goals and objectives related to Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the planning, marketing, and execution of Late Night Breakfast during Fall and Spring semesters; regularly review and update Student Organization Manual;
  • attend appropriate University functions and campus events to maintain visibility / approachability; assist with other events / programs sponsored by the Office of Student and Family Engagement and other units within Student Life / Dean of Students and the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs;
  • serve on office, divisional, and university sponsored program initiatives and committees; establish positive working relationships with campus partners and key stakeholders;

stay abreast of current trends related to fraternity and sorority life and higher education; perform other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess the following :

  • Knowledge of issues, trends, applicable standards, policies, and best practices relevant to fraternities and sororities particularly related to the National Panhellenic Council (NPC) and general risk management / harm reduction
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills in advising, organizational development, motivating students and conflict resolution
  • Ability to facilitate educational programs and / or workshops focused on issues relevant to fraternities and sororities
  • Ability and willingness to function as a member of a team
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community members of diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of student and leadership development theories / concepts
  • Active involvement with an applicable association (i.e. AFA) on a regional or national level
  • Ability to conduct assessment and evaluation of educational programs and initiatives based on learning outcomes
