General Labor Services Position

Applications will be accepted through 11 : 59 p.m. August 20, 2025. Physical Plant Services (PPS) supports the educational and public service programs of Fort Lewis College through the delivery of effective operational support, maintenance services and the management of the College's facilities construction program. Services are provided by the Service Center, Custodial Services, Electrical Systems, Electronic Equipment Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, Equipment Maintenance, Mechanical Systems Maintenance, Structural Maintenance and Planning, Design & Construction work units. This position will provide general labor services for Physical Plant Services with special emphasis on materials handling, minor vehicle and equipment service, grounds duties, custodial duties, snow removal and assisting other work units within the department. This position is an essential services position and required to work during inclement weather, campus special events and emergencies. This position is eligible for overtime when preapproved by the supervisor, eligible for call back pay, shift differential when applicable and is covered under the Colorado Partnership for Quality Jobs & Services Act.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in a higher education institution
  • Work experience with an online work order system
  • Basic vehicle maintenance experience
  • Basic equipment maintenance experience

    • Conditions of Employment

  • A final job offer is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a criminal background check as a condition of employment. All background checks will be conducted in accordance with Fort Lewis College policy.
  • A final job offer is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a post offer evaluation of lifting abilities.
  • This is an essential services position and must be able to work during inclement weather, special events, and emergencies. If the campus is closed due to inclement weather, this position must be able to get to work on time to assist with weather emergencies.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver license. Must be in possession of the license at the time of application.
  • A final job offer is contingent upon the satisfactory review of the driving record by the College insurance agent and the satisfactory driving record must be maintained in order to drive a campus vehicle.
  • Must be able to exert 100 lbs of force occasionally, and / or in excess of 50 lbs of force frequently, and / or 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must work in proximity to moving, mechanical parts.
  • May encounter exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Works with the following environmental conditions : Exposure to weather, extreme cold, extreme heat, wet and / or humid conditions, noise, vibration and atmospheric conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation, that affects the respiratory system, eyes or the skin.

    • Job Duties

    Material Handling 55%

  • Set up & break down equipment for special events and athletic events including transport, layout, set up and take down tables, chairs, risers, platforms, curtains, tents, canopies, floor protectors, etc.
  • Assist with trash and recycling for the campus. Pick up and empty trash containers on campus and deliver refuse to central containers utilizing truck or service cart.
  • Move office furniture and campus equipment as requested utilizing hand trucks, dollies and other moving devices.
  • Assembling / disassembling office furniture as required for transport or final set-up

    • Vehicle and Equipment Service 25%

  • Set up & break down equipment for special events and athletic events including transport, layout, set up and take down tables, chairs, risers, platforms, curtains, tents, canopies, floor protectors, etc.
  • Assist with trash and recycling for the campus. Pick up and empty trash containers on campus and deliver refuse to central containers utilizing truck or service cart.
  • Move office furniture and campus equipment as requested utilizing hand trucks, dollies and other moving devices.
  • Assembling / disassembling office furniture as required for transport or final set-up

    • Grounds 5%

    • Assist Other Work Units in Physical Plant Services 5%

  • Provide general labor support to other shops as needed. May operate basic hand tools, circular saw, jog saw, and drills.
