Assistant Director, Lincoln Public Library (Lincoln)

Under the direction of the Library Director, the Assistant Director provides support in the overall management of the library, with a primary focus on adult services, technology integration, staff development, and innovative service delivery.

Key Responsibilities :
- Assist the Director in strategic planning, policy development and implementation
- Assume directorial responsibilities in the Director's absence
- Spearhead the library's marketing efforts, including digital presence and traditional media
- Supervise, mentor and evaluate Reference Librarians and select both print and electronic materials for the library’s reference collection
- Provide reference services and reader’s advisory and other public service desk coverage as needed
- Supervise, mentor and evaluate Adult Circulation staff and ensure seamless integration of circulation services with overall library operations
- Coordinate staffing schedules across departments
- Direct volunteer activities
- Oversee adult programming, workshops, lectures, and special events
- Lead the implementation and maintenance of library technology systems in coordination with the Town's IT Department and liaise with Technology Partners including the Minuteman Library Network and other vendors
- Maintain the library website
- Stay abreast of emerging library technologies and recommend strategic adoptions
- Provide technology support and training for staff and public
- Prepare, analyze and effectively utilize statistical reports
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications :
Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution. Minimum of 5 years professional library experience, including 3 years in a supervisory capacity or equivalent combination of experience, training and education.
Broad knowledge and experience with computer networks, integrated library systems, computer software and hardware, and library technology is expected.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
Work Schedule : 40 hours per week including one Saturday per month and at least one evening shift per week. This position requires flexibility to work some evenings and weekends to support programming and meetings.
Physical Requirements : The work requires some physical effort. While performing duties of the job, there will be extended periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
Some pushing or pulling full book carts of up to 100 pounds, and repetitive twisting, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching to lift and move library materials of up to 40 pounds is required.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision viewing computer screens for extended periods of time.
This position requires regular use of a computer necessitating hand and eye coordination and finger dexterity. The employee must have vision and hearing at, or correctible to, normal range and be able to communicate verbally.
