Overview Purpose Statement / Position Summary : This position provides development, organization and direction for the clinical operations of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM), and other areas as assigned by Pathologist-in-Chief.

The Administrator ensures high quality, cutting edge, cost effective diagnostic services are provided in a timely manner, while modeling leadership consistent with CHLA’s mission and values.

This role will have all testing area managers from three divisions reporting to them, including supervisors if that testing section does not have a manager.

Essential Functions and Job Duties : Provides on-site technical and administrative direction for managers and supervisors, and partners with department leadership in creating, executing, and managing operational activities for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM) at Children's Hospital Los Angeles to established clinical care standards.

May represent PLM operations in key department or hospital standing or ad-hoc committees. Coordinates clinical activities across PLM and in partnership with other departments and service centers.

Identifies, solicits, reviews, and oversees the implementation of performance improvement activities, including system changes and modifications to ensure the PLM clinical activities support the patient experience, incorporating best practices and innovations.

Works with Department leadership to develop strategic and operational initiatives involving assigned areas. Addresses customer service issues promptly and identifies sustainable long-term solutions.

Works with faculty directors, managers and supervisors to ensure that staffing is adequate and accurately reflects changing workloads, staff skill mix, and staff competencies.

Responsible for building high performing teams, enhancing team’s management skills, overall management, including recruitment and retention, training, development, performance management, and employee relations.

Mentors managers, supervisors and emerging leaders to actively support their professional growth, and long-term retention.

Establishes policies and procedures to support all clinical operational activities and ensures compliance. Responsible for budgeting and planning.

Partners with faculty directors in identifying and implementing appropriate strategies for reducing costs and improving quality of service.

In partnership with each section, ensure the accuracy and timely management of productivity tools. Responsible for the performance of the lab productivity tools to evaluate overall performance and develop mitigating strategies to address areas of concern and risk.

In partnership with PLM leadership and PLM Quality, Regulatory Compliance and Safety Team to ensure that the department meets or exceeds all regulatory, accreditation and legal requirements including State license, College of American Pathologists accreditation, Federal CLIA certification, FDA, CMS, DNV as well as several other agencies and organizations.

Responsible for the enrollment and participation in approved proficiency testing programs and establishing a quality control program for the testing performed.

Minimum Qualifications / Work Experience : 5+ years’ experience in a comparable position of leadership and management in an academic medical center.

Education / Licensure / Certification : Required : Bachelor’s Degree (B.S. or B.A.) required and valid California Clinical Lab Scientist license issued by the state of California required.

Preferred : Master’s Degree in business, health care management or similar discipline preferred. Pay Scale Information $116,688.

00-$210,163.00 CHLA values the contribution each Team Member brings to our organization. Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry.

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description.
