What We Do :
Job Summary : To plan and conduct recreation activities; to set-up and take-down rooms and equipment as needed for recreation activities;
to perform clerical tasks in support of recreation programs; and to provide technical support to an assigned supervisor.
This is the journey level in the single-level part-time Recreation Leader class. Incumbents may be assigned to develop and lead recreation activities, supervise or monitor program participants, and provide facility oversight.
The Recreation Leader class family includes part-time Recreation Leader and Recreation Aide. Work in this class is distinguished from that of a Recreation Aide by the addition of lead responsibilities and greater independence with which an incumbent is expected to work.
Receives general supervision from an assigned supervisor.

Oral Interview
Plan, conduct, and evaluate recreation activities for children, teens, and / or adults.
- Instruct program participants in recreation activities including crafts, games, team and individual sports, theater, music, gardening, and other program activities.
- Develop program materials for related recreation activities as necessary.
- Serve as scorekeeper and timekeeper for adult sports league games.
- Enforce City and league rules and policies; maintain a safe and secure program environment for participants and staff.
- Supervise or monitor program participants as applicable.
- Communicate with supervisory program staff regarding participant behavior, injuries, and other relevant matters; document program details and incidents.
- Maintain files, rosters, forms, and program documents as necessary.
- Perform field / gym / room set-up and breakdown.
- Ensure that all equipment and facilities are safely and properly prepared and maintained.
- Perform class registration and facility booking duties.
- Notify supervisor of necessary supplies for recreation activities.
- Perform customer service functions including reception, answering phones, and providing information to a wide range of customers.
- Attend meetings and training sessions related to recreation programming.
- Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices and protocols, methods, and procedures.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.

- Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Training : Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
License and Certificate : Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid CPR and First Aid certification within 1 year of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Principles and practices of customer service.
- Principles, techniques, and rules of competitive and non-competitive activities and / or recreation programs.
- Methods of scorekeeping, timekeeping, and officiating for assigned sports.
- Park and facility rules.
Motivate and lead other program staff, volunteers, and participants.
- Provide instruction and guidance to program participants and other support staff.
- Plan and facilitate a variety of recreational programs and activities.
- Demonstrate use of program materials and equipment.
- Use sound judgment in recognizing scope of authority.
- Operate and use standard office equipment including computers and applicable software.
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.
- Utilize appropriate safety procedures and practices for assigned duties.
