Quality Technician- Roving Inspector

PURPOSE OF THE JOB :

The purpose of this position is to ensure the highest quality of parts to our customers as directed by the Quality Standards and policies of Rockford Ball Screw.

The Quality Technician-Roving Inspector position at Rockford Ball Screw is currently a full-time temporary role. After a probationary period of 90 days, there are several potential pathways : the role may be extended, transitioned into a temp-to-hire opportunity based on performance and company requirements, or in some cases, may be subject to elimination.

Any updates regarding the status of this role will be promptly communicated as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Preform product inspections and testing to meet customer and RBS quality specifications
• Maintain completed, in-process and first piece part inspection data
• Generate quality documents including; inspection reports, certification of conformance, etc.
• Prepare mounts for metallurgical inspection of heat treated products
• Support scrap / re-work process for discrepant products
• Conduct Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Gauge Repeatability studies
• Record inspection operations into ERP system
• Support ISO Quality System requirements
• Maintain instrument calibration system, documents and procedures
• Move parts to the next operation with cart or Forklift Truck
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Follow safety rules
• Perform other duties as assigned

EQUIPMENT USED :

Computer, CMM, Microhardness Tester, Metallurgical Microscope, Stereoscope, Digital Camera, Mounting Press, Grinder / Polisher, Gage blocks, Indicator, Comparator, Micrometers, Plug Gages, Forklift Truck

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

Education :

Associate Degree and / or training in a technical field preferred

Experience :

• 2-6 years experience in quality control in a metal removal ISO certified environment
• Demonstrated proficiency utilizing metrology / inspection tools; experience with calibration systems required
• Experience in Document Control and ERP systems
• 1-3 years of CMM operation

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS :

• Focused on quality
• Strong interpersonal skills, team player
• Ability to interpret blueprints with a strong knowledge of GD&T principles and inspection methods.
• Ability to organize and prioritize
• Must be proficient in the use of all metrological inspection tools.
• Strong computer skills using Excel and MS Word
• Proficient use of Coordinating Measuring Machines (CMM), optical comparators and other tools and equipment used to inspect.
