Manufacturing Engineer
Job Purpose
To provide Engineering support to the Electronics Manufacturing Division.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing processes to promote product quality, on time delivery and profitability.
- Performs experimentation to design and document new methods and processes
- Communicates and suggests direction for process and methods improvements to internal customers
- Supports new process development. This includes, but is not limited to :
- New equipment installation and qualifications.
- Materials evaluations / qualifications (solder pastes, epoxies, flux, solvents, etc.).
- Tooling / fixture development; this could entail procuring manufacturer’s tooling or designing custom tooling for products or equipment.
I / E Stencils, PCB carriers, press fit fixtures, etc. based upon customer specifications.
- Training other Engineers and / or production employees on equipment or processes.
- Supports New Product Introduction (NPI). This includes, but is not limited to :
- Review customer documentation package for all necessary information
- Attend NPI meetings to assist in defining requirements for processes
- Machine programs and maintenance, such as Cad Files, paste files, assembly drawings or aids, and assembly instructions.
- Create routers defining manufacturing process flow
- Oven profile development.
- Provide customer Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reports to document suggested product improvements when identified.
- Prepares charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization.
- Plans strategies for prioritizing individual workload to meet defined goals, whether working independently, or with others.
- Works with other personnel to determine root cause, develop and implement corrective action.
- Assist Manufacturing personnel in reconfiguring and optimizing workstations.
- Responsible for identifying personnel protective equipment when developing assembly processes.
- Confers with planning and sales staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Reviews Customer Drawings, assembly notes and specifications to provide concise feedback for assembly and / or design for manufacturing improvement.
- Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
- Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Applies statistical methods to monitor manufacturing processes
- Mentor Associate Manufacturing Engineers and Manufacturing Engineering Techs.
- Works with Management and other staff to ensure their understanding of all applicable processes affecting product assembly and completion.
- Other duties may be assigned at the manager’s discretion
Required Skills / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four-year College or university and a minimum of one years related experience or training.
- Associates or Technical degree and 3 years of experience directly related to Manufacturing Engineering.
- Five years’ experience as Manufacturing Engineer
- Three years’ experience in Manufacturing or 3 years as Associate Manufacturing Engineer or Manufacturing Engineering Technician
