Job Description
$2,500 sign on bonus (two-year commitment) for full time positions-Under close supervision, fills routine orders for unit doses and prepackaged pharmaceuticals.
The Pharmacy Technician counts, packages and labels unit doses for inspection by pharmacist and fills routine orders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals.
Responsibilities
General Duties Understand the pharmacy workflow for medication returns and medication disposal. Interpretation and understanding of medical abbreviations.
Identification and differentiation of different types of medication orders (Scheduled, PRN, Once, STAT, Now). Responsible for the accurate interpretation of EPIC pharmacy labels.
Ensures all medication related work is reviewed by a pharmacist.Recognizes and identifies various classifications of medications, medication names, dosage forms and routes of administration.
Ability to use available print and online references as appropriate. Ability to appropriately label all medication dosage forms including auxiliary labels for expiration and storage as required.
Ability to troubleshoot Pyxis equipment (. failed drawers, inventory, outdates, discrepancies). Ability to utilize technology in the pharmacy including, but not limited to Carousels, DoseEdge, Simplifi, Pyxis, Prepackaging Systems.
Responsible for the preparation of non-sterile compounding and packaging. Ability to accurately draw up oral syringes, compound oral suspensions.
Recognizes the regulations for repackaging medications and complies with all required labeling and documentation procedures for non-sterile compounding and packaging.
May be exposed to certain hazardous materials, including but not limited to chemotherapeutic agents and agents causing reproductive risks.
Responsible for answering phones, assisting caller with missing medication, responding to Pyxis stockouts in a timely manner, and responding to EPIC in-basket messages.
Responsible for inventory, storage and supply maintenance of assigned areas. Processes patient charges (including narcotic charges) in an efficient and timely manner, credits and returns to stock any medication not used by patients.
Responsible for exchanging emergency carts and completion of required documentation. Maintain cleanliness of all equipment and work areas.
Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures and follows all safety, quality assurance and infection control standards.
Responsible for knowing the laws and regulations related to controlled substances and meeting expectations for handling-controlled substances securely and completing all required documentation.
Knowledge of departmental quality assurance processes. Actively participates in various departmental committees and educational activities as assigned.
Responsible for understanding and upholding regulatory requirements as stated by LABP, USP, TJC, CMS, and any other governing / accrediting body for OLOL.
Ability to use Microsoft Office products, fax and copy machines and other office equipment as necessary.Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education : High School or equivalent
Special Skills : Ability to effectively follow directions, analyze problems and interpret analytical data. Strong communication skills with an emphasis on customer service skills.
Attention to detail to provide high quality care and accurate medication preparation.
Certification / License : Successful passing of the National Pharmacy Technician exam; State Pharmacy Certification
