Description
UMC Physicians is seeking an experienced full-time Neurosurgery Coder to join our team of specialty coders. Under general supervision, the Neurosurgery Coder reviews, analyzes and assures the final diagnoses and procedures as stated by the practicing providers are valid and complete.
The Neurosurgery Coder accurately codes and bills clinic and hospital procedures for providers to ensure proper reimbursement, and provides accurate and timely insurance filing of claims and posting of payments.
Availability Requirements :
- Monday - Friday 8 : 00 - 5 : 00
- Hybrid position with 2-4 days in office required
- Some evenings due to end of month / end of quarter completion

Essential Job Functions
- Review records and assign CPT diagnoses
- Code charges for outpatient and inpatient charges on a daily basis
- Monitor third party payments daily
- Review and research denial of claims
- Answer questions by patients and insurance companies on billing issues
- Handle billing correspondence
- Gather data and prepare information / reports as requested
- Perform other administrative duties as directed

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Medical operations and personnel skills
- Proficiency in all billing programs and procedures
- Clear understanding of coding and medical terminology
- Sensitivity to confidential information at all times
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Active CPC Certification
- Extensive CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 knowledge
- 2 years+ experience in neurosurgery coding
Environmental Conditions
The Neurosurgery Coder works in a well-lighted and ventilated building. A fast-paced and multitasking office environment is to be expected.
Exposure to blood borne pathogens is low risk.
Physical Requirements
This position requires prolonged sitting. It also requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment.
Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports is expected. Hours of duty may be irregular.
