PRIMARY PURPOSE : The Transportation Dispatcher, under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, will assist in coordinating the daily operations of all route buses, extra-curricular trips, routing, and personnel involved in transporting students and staff of HEB ISD.
QUALIFICATIONS : Education / Certification / Experience : High School diploma or GED Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License - with P and S endorsements Ability to pass annual DOT physical examination and random drug testing Texas School Bus Driver Certification Alternatives to the above, as the District finds appropriate Special Knowledge / Skills : Knowledge of acceptable school transportation standards and operations Knowledge of bus scheduling principles and practices Knowledge of school district bus routing softwares is preferred Effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with all customers and stakeholders Computer Skills - Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, GPS Software, Etc.
Effective organizational and interpersonal skills Ability to prioritize assignments and work with minimal supervision Strong work ethic and excellent attendance record Three years of experience in transportation operations, public school district experience preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES : Works with Operations Manager for assignment of drivers / attendants including daily routes, substitute drivers, middays, and field trips.
Assist the Field Trip Coordinator with driver and bus assignments and other District owned vehicles for routes and field trips.
Assist Routing Coordinators in establishing pickup / drop-off locations for students, and help determine the best route for travel.
Maintain professional communication with customers and other stakeholders responding to all phone calls / concerns / emails from customers and stakeholders.
Verify student eligibility for requested services. Monitor all routes to ensure that bus stops are efficient and safely located.
Assist with summer school bus routes and employee assignments / absenteeism. Support the educational goals of the district.
Contribute to the recommendation, implementation, or improvement of operations and policies within the bus route / student travel division of the Transportation Department.
Follow all safety rules and safety procedures. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible. Attend required staff development as assigned by the Administration and / or Director.
Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Director of Transportation or Operations Manager.
Utilize a systems approach to continuous improvement.
EQUIPMENT USED : Computer, scanner / printer / copier, calculator, two-way radio, telephone, school bus and safety equipment, Smart Tag Equipment.
