Role Overview

Outer Biosciences is seeking a Senior Scientist who can play an important role in discovering novel bioactives and advancing our skin biology platform.

This individual will bring a deep technical expertise on skin cell / tissue culture, compound screening, and comprehensive assays to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of compounds.

The successful candidate will work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, contributing to our mission of revolutionizing skin health.

This person will report to the Head of Skin Biology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of bioactive screening experiments to assess efficacy and safety for next-generation bioactive discovery focusing on anti-aging and improving skin health.
  • Perform model validation and characterization experiments using established bioactive materials / products and environmental stressors to induce various skin conditions.
  • Integrate advanced technologies (e.g., 3D / Bio-printing, 3D cell culture, dynamic culture) to enhance the physiological relevance and sensitivity of bio models.
  • Conduct multi-modal and comprehensive bioassays using various laboratory techniques (e.g. biochemical assays, omics analysis, histology and immunostaining, microscope, data analysis, etc).
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on skin functions, skin cell culture, and readouts specific to measuring various skin functions.
  • Establish and manage project goals, study plans, timelines, and deliverables, and ensure thorough record keeping and documentation.
  • Mentor junior members providing scientific and technical guidance.
  • Communicate plans, progress, and challenges across the organization and to leadership, proactively troubleshooting as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships and collaborations with external researchers, as applicable.
  • Collaborate and support all Outer Biosciences teams in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

Qualifications

MSc or PhD in Skin Biology, Dermatology, Pharmaceutical science, Bioengineering, Cosmetic science, or a related discipline with a focus on skin-related research;

MSc with 3+ relevant experience, PhD with 0+ relevant experience. Appointment level will depend on skill set and experience.

  • Extensive hands-on laboratory experience with skin cell / tissue-based models, including 2D, 3D, organoids, co-culture, and / or organ-chip technology, proficient in various biochemical / ELISA assays, staining techniques, imaging-based analysis, and gene / protein expression analysis.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot problems and provide effective solutions.
  • Driven by curiosity and impact and thrives in a continuous learning environment.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills, capable of managing multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interactive communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively both independently and in a group.
