Assistant / Associate Professor of Neurology or Assistant / Associate ofNeurological Sciences (in Epidemiology, and in the Gertrude H. SergievskyCenter)

The Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor level or above, with joint appointment in the Departments of Neurology in the Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons and Epidemiology in the Mailman School of Public Health, CUIMC. Since its inception in 1977, the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center has integrated clinical, epidemiologic, and genetic research at CUIMC focused on diseases of the brain and nervous system throughout the life course, with the mission to find the causes of these disabling disorders by investigating human populations at risk.

The Center is seeking candidates with expertise in epidemiology to conduct research related to improving brain health and reducing the impact of neurological disorders across the life course. Possible topics include, but are not limited to, neurodevelopment in children, cerebral palsy, autism, seizures & epilepsy, neurodegenerative disorders associated with aging, motor and cognitive disorders, brain injury, interactions between infectious agents and neurological outcomes and perinatal and genetic factors related to these conditions. We are interested in candidates who have established research programs or will develop independent research to expand and strengthen the Center's current research.

Candidates should have training and research experience in epidemiology, and a strong record of scholarly achievement. The ideal candidate is expected to have a successful record of extramurally funded research or to demonstrate potential to obtain extramural research funding. Enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring a new generation of scientists and practitioners of epidemiology will also be highly advantageous for prospective candidates.

• Minimum Degree Required : Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH) in epidemiology or related population science or MD degree with graduate degree or training in epidemiology.
• Minimum Qualifications : Relevant postdoctoral research experience required. Strong publication record and demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring are required. An established record, or clear future promise, of leading extramurally funded projects is essential, as is a demonstrated enthusiasm for the impact that their research, teaching, and service can and should have on the public's health.
• Preferred Qualifications : A doctoral degree in epidemiology, or an MD with a graduate degree specializing in epidemiology.
