The project :

We are hiring an ambitious and forward-thinking Estimator with transit or rail experience - to join our established and growing team in New York.

You’ll be responsible for :

Activities related to estimating all elements of project cost including labor (manual and non-manual), materials and permanent equipment, supplies, consumables and expenses, construction equipment rental and operating costs, contingency, escalation, program risk, etc.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of degrees of uncertainty that applies to estimates as they are developed throughout the project life cycle.
  • Uses this knowledge to identify assumptions and risks to develop contingency proposals for the project.
  • Ensures that the ranges of estimates are used to prepare an overall estimate, together with optimistic and pessimistic targets for each task.
  • Ensures that estimates are continually reviewed and revised as and when new information becomes available, and more is known about the project.
  • Provides life cycle costing for various estimating components.
  • Provides Top-Down conceptual estimating.
  • Ensures, whenever possible, that comparative techniques are used, e.g. estimates are based on previous experience and usage statistics.
  • Quantifies top-down estimates to reflect project factors such as escalation, currency, local market conditions.
  • Provides Bottom-Up measurement-based estimating.
  • Produces detailed estimates in a timely and efficient manner, based on bills of quantities / take-off and activity-based costs.

You’ll need to have :

  • New York / New Jersey specific experience.
  • Experience in constructability reviews of heavy civil construction projects
  • Demonstrated experience with commercialized estimating programs.
  • Evidence of good potential growth shown by satisfactory performance in past positions.
  • BA / BS plus relevant experience.
  • AA / AS (US) plus relevant experience.
  • High school diploma / GED plus relevant experience.
  • Related estimating experience.
  • Minimum OSHA 30 training.

You’ll also have :

  • MTA, MNRR, LIRR, NYCT, MTA, Amtrak experience preferred.
  • Experience in heavy civil, transit and rail.
  • Related estimating experience in industrial and commercial projects.
