Description
The iCMP Pharmacy Technician supports the mission of the Integrated Care Management Program (iCMP), which is designed to improve the quality and efficiency of care for the chronically ill patient population by providing robust care management to patients of MGH primary care physicians.
Under the direction of the iCMP pharmacist, and in close collaboration with the iCMP Care Team, the iCMP Pharmacy Technician is responsible for ensuring timely medication access for the iCMP patient population, in order to improve adherence to treatment recommendations and to prevent gaps in necessary pharmacotherapy.
The iCMP Pharmacy Technician will take an active role in advancing program goals and initiatives related to pharmacy and medication access.
This will include outreach to patients for whom care team providers have identified problems with obtaining or adhering to medication regimens.
In addition, the iCMP Pharmacy Technician will assist in educating the iCMP Care Team providers regarding pharmacy benefits, insurance coverage issues, and formulary information in to ensure provision of cost-effective medication regimens that patients are able to afford and obtain.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Collaborate with and receive referrals from iCMP Pharmacist and Care Managers to identify problems related to medication access and affordability including coordinating with pharmacies that deliver or blisterpack medications, calling insurances, facilitating
patient assistance programs, manufacturer coupons, Prescription Advantage and coordination with Patient Financial Services for Medicaid supports
2. Managing refills for a selected population through MGH Outpatient Pharmacy using Mckesson, communicate and coordinate with pharmacy, iCMP staff and providers for refill needs, creating shipping labels and forms, tracking shipments and assist in resolving shipping delays
3. Maintain monthly data, using Microsoft Excel, on the patients being managed by iCMP Pharmacy Team for medication management and shipping from the MGH Outpatient Pharmacy and processing monthly bills
4. Utilize Pharmacy Benefit Manager programs including Mckesson, EPIC and NEHEN to support pharmacy benefits, including the ability to resolve rejected claims.
5. Educate iCMP team members and patients on procedures of obtaining prescriptions, generic medications, insurance procedures, and other medication related issues as needed.
6. Utilize excellent interpersonal skills when communicating with patients, families, and physicians, to develop rapport, build trust, communicate medication needs and questions, and engage patients in person and over the phone.
Communication does not include MD drug clarification or medication counseling to patients and / or families
7. Utilize Epic for documentation related to iCMP patients and communication with the iCMP care team.
8. Participate in regular iCMP Care Team meetings; facilitate in education and / or presentations to iCMP care team staff on industry trends as relevant, including formal presentations at Care Team Operations meetings as needed.
9. Maintain knowledge of current industry trends as they pertain to Pharmacy Benefit Management.
10. Assist iCMP Pharmacist in completing and distributing Medicare D reports during Open Enrollment. This includes multiple modes of communication to patients and / or family members to discuss information within the report (phone, Patient Gateway, email), data collection and tracking using Excel.
11. Handle confidential information in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
12. Support both departmental and hospital-based quality improvement projects in collaboration with the iCMP Pharmacist.
Qualifications
1.High school diploma or equivalent.
2.Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician and registered by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy and is certified by a Board-approved certifying body.
3.Must be at least 18 years of age.
4.Two years previous hospital experience as a Registered Pharmacy Technician II or equivalent experience at MGH PLUS minimum 2 years experience in a retail pharmacy setting with emphasis on resolving insurance issues.
4.Excellent command of medical terminology, medical abbreviations and computer technology is required.
5.Experience in dealing with Manufacturer PAP programs a plus.
6.Experience in performing Medicare Part D analysis a plus.
7.Must complete annual Continuing Education credits as required by the certifying body to maintain Certification. - (Must complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of continuing education in pharmacy-related subject matter during each two (2) year recertification cycle.
For recertification candidates, at least one (1) hour of the twenty (20) hours must be in the subject of pharmacy law, and for reinstatement candidates, two (2) of the twenty (20) hours must be in the subject of pharmacy law.
A maximum of fifteen (15) hours of the twenty (20) hours may be earned by completing a relevant college course with a grade of C or better.
A maximum of ten (10) hours may be earned by completing in-service
8.Upon departmental orientation and annually thereafter, must complete annual hospital required training.
