Experienced Veterinary Assistant | Full-Time

VCA Kaneohe Animal Hospital is seeking Experienced (non-registered) Veterinary Assistant(s) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience, to join our team!

We are specifically looking for Full-Time support; Shifts range throughout the week, fulfill a forty (40) hour work week on days that are based on the needs of the hospital.

Closing (730p) and weekend availability is a requirement.

This position pays $ - $ per hour, dependent on experience, longevity, education, certification, etc.

Emphasis on team approach to client service between receptionist, technical and veterinary staff. Compassionate care for all patients is a must.

In this position you will be supporting our Doctors by creating a positive, low-stress atmosphere for our clients and patients during their care.

Essential responsibilities will include but are not limited to :

Perform more complex patient care including, but not limited to medication administration (SQ, IV, oral, topical, IM);

Nutrition recommendations.

• Communicate with team and with clients (including client education without supervision)
• Monitor anesthesia patient trends, recognizing abnormal values, and extubating patients.
• Safely and responsibly position pets for diagnostic imaging and obtaining diagnostic-quality images. Having and following Hands Free practice is our ultimate practice and goal for most if not all pets.
• Perform professional dental cleanings under supervision.
• Fill prescriptions including controlled substances based on state regulations.
• Perform laboratory work including broader knowledge of tests and abnormal cells, in-house cytology, and sending out special-order tests.
• Provide veterinary assistant appointments for clients (as applicable).
• Mentor and help develop other Associates.
• Other responsibilities as assigned, such as participating in the development of other Associates and responding to emergencies under direction of a veterinarian or other designed mentors.
• Venipuncture and catheter placement
• Computer data entry and maintaining electronic medical records
• Presenting patient History and signalment to our doctors
• Cleaning and caring for hospitalized patients
• Some phone, client e-mails, and fax management
