Associate Professor of Practice in Bioengineering / Biomedical Engineering

Position Description The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) invites applications for a non-tenure system Associate Professor of Practice position in Bioengineering and / or Biomedical Engineering.

  • The position will focus on teaching undergraduate and graduate design courses. Duties include : (1) Prepare and teach undergraduate and graduate level lectures and labs using existing course materials as a guide and template;
  • 2) develop and teach additional design courses per the department's needs; (3) compile and submit assessment data per departmental procedures;
  • 4) participate in course and instructor evaluations; (5) may work with one or more TAs; (6) collaborate with other faculty in the department on course materials and instruction;

7) other service duties as assigned. The appointment commences for the fall 2025 semester. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience : A PhDor MS in Biomedical Engineering or related discipline with a biomedical engineering focus and industry design experience.

At least two years of experience teaching at the college or university level in engineering or related STEM field or teaching technical courses in industry.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.

We are seeking candidates able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred Education and Experience : Teaching experience in the area of engineering design. Experience collaborating with industry professionals on student projects.

Experience mentoring student interns, student capstone projects, or training new employees. The Department and University The Department of Bioengineering offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering with a total enrollment over 700 students.

UT Dallas is situated in Richardson, TX, one of the most attractive suburbs in the Dallas metropolitan area. The university sits in close proximity to the telecom corridor, home to several hundred high-technology companies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence;
  • Prepare and teach undergraduate and / or graduate classes;
  • Contribute assessment information and data as requested;
  • Mentor and / or advise undergraduate and / or graduate students;
  • Engage in service within the academic unit, the university, and the profession as appropriate based on teaching and research constraints;

Teach seven (7) classes each academic year.
