Job Description
This position will provide chemistry support in the development of heavy duty commercial and industrial lubricant products including engine oils, gear oils, hydraulic fluids, grease and other related products.
In the role, you would be responsible for :
- Working as part of a team to support formulators in product development by conducting formulation blending, and testing.
- New Product Development
o Meet with business development, management, marketing, and research and development teams
o Discuss and collaborate product / project ideas
o Identify or relay new market opportunities to stakeholders
o Modify and revise existing products to meets customer expectations and satisfaction
o Redesign existing products to enhance functionality or reduce costs
o Project manager championed projects
Product Superiority
o Research product marketplace for current and future technological product / raw material advancement
o Champion product development and continued improvement
o Act as resource for any product related inquiries
o Identify product solutions
o Meet with suppliers and stay current on new technology, OEM, API updates
Technical Services
Handle customer incidents to assure customer satisfaction
o Research competitive products and cross reference existing products that are suitable for replacement
o Evaluate market conditions as well as maintain awareness of the industry
o Act as resource for customers and sales reps
o Provide product related technical information and consultation to customers
o Provide feedback to sales on product development opportunities
o Update product information regarding testing or updated specifications
o Answer phone calls to answer customer / sales rep product questions
o Research and keep up to date on global trends in the lubricant industry and industry / OEM specifications
o Liaison between SMC and original equipment manufacturers
- Laboratory Services as required.
- Managing test data.
- Running laboratory equipment as trained; preparing blends documenting formulations and results, performing calculations as required.
- Writing or contributing to test reports and summaries using MS Office.
- Following lab safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Cleaning lab equipment and glassware as needed to support a clean and safe lab environment.
- Participating in project teams and project meetings / discussions.
- Other duties and responsibilities from time to time
What You'll Need
- B.S. in Chemistry
- Minimum one year of relevant work experience
- Working knowledge in benchtop testing including material properties and industry standards (ASTM)
- Strong chemical lab work aptitude, analytical skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and good team working skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
