The Impact You'll Have :

We are looking expand our expertise to the Salt Lake City area and are looking for a Regional Civil Engineering Manager ! This role will see the candidate leading all aspects of Alliant's Mountain West Office, including strategic planning for office and regional growth;

client development and management; leading pursuits and winning work; talent recruitment, development and mentoring; and overseeing the technical and financial performance of the office.

The candidate should have an established record of successful project performance and prior leadership experience. They should be a recognized leader in the Salt Lake City area and be engaged in industry organizations.

The right candidate should have outstanding organizational and leadership skills and be able to set priorities and lead multiple initiatives while providing leadership for the entire group.

The candidate would be expected to win and lead specific projects while collaborating with a team of multi-disciplined engineers and providing technical guidance to project managers and senior engineers.

Responsibilities : Group Management

Group Management

  • Oversight of Civil Engineering activities, establish priorities and assign staff to projects. Collaborate with other groups, offices, and practices on work-sharing needs and opportunities.
  • Drive the implementation of the office's project delivery processes including Work Planning, Monthly Project Reviews, and other project performance methods to ensure quality work, on time, on schedule, to the client's satisfaction.
  • Drive the implementation of the group's contracting process through project delivery and contracting activities including scope, work plan, and fee reviews for all contracting activities impacting the group.
  • Collaborate with and support the Leadership team and other Group & Department Managers in accomplishing their revenue and performance goals.
  • Lead staff and provide technical direction and supervision of multiple projects.
  • Work with the VP of Operations to develop a strategy to grow and expand the group. Assist in identifying strategic hires and possible acquisitions.
  • Represent the Mountain West Region on Alliant's Leadership Team, providing the critical communication link between offices and regions.

Talent Recruitment and Development

  • Coordinate with managers to determine hiring needs.
  • In consultation with our Human Resources team, recruit, hire, develop, and retain department staff within the office.
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor junior engineering staff.

Client Relationships, Marketing, Pursuit Development

  • Lead and assist in marketing efforts facilitating office growth.
  • Partner with other company leaders and managers to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for projects.
  • Assist in marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win-to-work activities.
  • Lead proposal development and interview presentations for projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.
  • Serve as the primary client liaison and manage the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client's satisfaction.

Assist with client project scoping and contract negotiations.

Project Management & Technical Leadership

Supervise the project delivery for the office. Lead the development and execution of the office's project management plans.

Supervise and mentor the team to meet overall project delivery objectives.

  • Establish and / or review priorities and work schedules and coordinate resource needs / assignments.
  • Strategic involvement throughout the project's life-cycle including the pre-award (bid phase), post-award, or post-design (construction) phase.
  • Actively manage projects and perform project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget, and quality management).
  • Supervise, provide Quality Assurance or perform technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation.
  • Manage and implement Alliant's robust Quality Management Plan throughout the Mountain West Region.
  • Work to develop technical strategies and procedures. Monitor and develop appropriate professional standards and integrate the plans and metrics for quality assurance through all phases of project delivery.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Master’s degree in Civil Engineering is a plus.
  • P.E. License in Utah.
  • Minimum of 15 years relevant experience. 20+ years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a leadership position leading teams within this market.
  • A self-starter who takes initiative.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Representation in industry organizations.
  • Proven record of successful project management and pursuits of project proposals experience.
  • Strong background in multiple delivery methods - candidate for leading the pursuit and management of complex projects.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects.
  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on schedule adherence and quality work products.
  • Advanced technical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience :

  • Proven ability to manage large transportation engineering projects and teams effectively.
  • Extensive experience pursuing and delivering UDOT projects.
  • Design Build / Alternative Delivery Experience.
