ABOUT THE POSITION

As our Shop Foreman / Senior Technician, you will not only provide exceptional leadership to our service shop technicians, but you will also work closely with our service manager and sales representatives to open work orders and assist in the timeliness of getting the right techs to the right jobs.

In addition, this position requires you to perform mechanical repairs ensuring that equipment is running to its full performance, providing our customer with effective and efficient performing equipment.

Recent graduates from technical schools with education in automotive and / or diesel repair are strongly encouraged to apply.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF SHOP FOREMAN :

  • Supervise all shop service technicians.
  • Write Contact Management incidents for shop technicians and occasionally for road technicians.
  • Take customer calls when they inquire about repair advice and build trust with them to allow us to repair their equipment.
  • Keep in touch with customers as to the status of their unit in the shop.
  • Maintain and track use of shop tools; Send requested tools to their appropriate branches.
  • Keep shop compliant and fire code and do walk throughs with inspector; Walk through with all fire sprinkler inspector.
  • Create purchase orders for cartage and subcontractors as needed for unit repairs.
  • Enforce shop safety policies and perform shop safety inspections.
  • Coordinate the pick-up of waste oils, filters and anti-freeze.
  • Responsible for investigating the progress of unit repair completion by conducting periodic spot checks of all jobs throughout the day to ensure timely repairs, quality workmanship and cleanliness.
  • Ensuring that all warranty parts are clean, lube drained (if required), tagged and stored in the designated location.
  • Ensuring that all units are road tested when required and that the repairs were completed correctly.
  • May be responsible for overseeing team members' performance and provide performance feedback to management when requested.
  • This position is responsible for the receipt and flow of all incoming work, communication with customers and constant communication with all other internal departments.
  • Conduct proper estimate of repairs and sourcing of parts both internally and externally.
  • Responsible for opening all workorders and ensuring the accuracy of each work order at time of completion after sending to the billing department for invoicing;

monitor workorder from start to finish to ensure labor, parts and all pricing are accurate to customer quote and address overage of time worked after exceeding quote expectations.

  • Conduct assessment of new, used, and aftermarket parts through a variety of vendors.
  • Write up customers’ unit issues and concerns or maintenance requirements accurately and clearly.
  • Assess labor time based upon discovery by the applicable technician.
  • Establish customers’ method of payment, Purchase Order requirements and estimate requirements if needed at time of write up.
  • Conducting the flow of all service work, technician accountability, unit repair completion, documentation.
  • Responsible for notifying the internal team of completed repairs and scheduling cartage for transport of unit(s).
  • Responsible for working with fleet management and warranty and communicating necessary repairs to the applicable representative;

understanding and ensuring compliance with all vendor policies and warranty procedures.

  • Validate part return and credit completion if part is not used in applicable repair.
  • Conduct customer follow-up after unit repair to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate suggested manufacturer maintenance to the customer as dictated by applicable manufacturer.
  • Maintain work area cleanliness and organization to ensure a safe workspace.
  • Adhere to established policies, standards and standard operating procedures.
  • Actively support corporate initiatives including continuous improvement efforts.
  • Willingness to take on additional roles and responsibilities as requested by your supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF SENIOR TECHNICIAN

  • Provides technical assistance and trains staff in job specific and safe work procedures.
  • Repair, diagnose, inspect, and maintain all material handling equipment for customer work orders assigned to you.
  • Communicate with customer(s) on diagnosed repairs suggested or required for repair and obtains customer approvals.
  • Reads work orders, observes and listens to truck in operation to determine / diagnose malfunction or problem(s).
  • Offers solutions to meet customer specifications.
  • Provides estimates when appropriate.
  • Repair, service, recondition or assemble equipment as approved by the customer / Service Manager.
  • Obtains necessary parts working cooperatively with Parts department staff.
  • Makes mechanical repairs to equipment after a complete inspection and analysis of breakdown has been completed.
  • Records complete repair description on work order, including correct model and serial number of equipment and records hour meter reading.
  • Obtains signature from customer and communicates with them on repair needs or work that was completed.
  • Examines protective guards, loose bolts, specified safety devices on truck and makes adjustments.
  • Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired truck to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Always maintains professional image of self, cleanliness of van (externally and internally) and of assigned work area at customer site.
  • Maintains and operates shop equipment and tools.
  • Notifies Service Manager or Supervisor of safety issues and / or accidents immediately.
  • Performs quality work as quickly and professional as possible.
  • Promotes marketing efforts to drive parts, service, equipment and rental sales.
  • Completes service forms and submit directly to Service department daily via work tablet.

  • Willingness to accept new duties and responsibilities as assigned by direct manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record; CDL may be required.
  • Experience in forklift repair is desired, intermediate maintenance experience is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety manual, operating maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of an organization.
  • Ability to work under little or no supervision.
  • Must be able to provide own tools for the job immediately; annual tool incentive is given.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
  • 3+ years of mechanic experience and / or education relating to the position.
  • Basic knowledge of computer and internet software.
