Description

The Editorial Director of Events and Live Journalism is responsible for developing and fostering event programming strategy across Front Office Sports' virtual and in-person event programs.

This includes but is not limited to content development, panel, and speaker procurement, event program outlines, and liaising with internal and external speakers, among other responsibilities.

The editorial director will work closely with the Events and Editorial teams to bring FOS editorial to life while curating forward-thinking programs that serve the FOS audience.

The ideal candidate is a natural people person who has experience moderating, hosting, and curating editorially-led events and experiences.

We are seeking a professional who has strong industry knowledge and relationships to maximize our editorial output through virtual and in-person events.

This position is a part of the Events team and will work cross-functionally with the integrated marketing, editorial, creative strategy, and brand partnerships teams to develop and execute programs that align with the collective FOS vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop robust working relationships with editorial leaders across the newsroom and partner to produce the best live journalism FOS has to offer.
  • Collaborate with editorial leaders to develop the editorial voice of in-person and virtual programs.
  • Work closely with the Director of Events + Live Journalism to forecast future event strategies and editorial programs.
  • Moderate and / or host virtual and / or live events.
  • Develop and curate a network of industry professionals, sports executives, athletes, and media personalities for our in-person and virtual events.
  • Collaborate with FOS executives to foster relationships with industry professionals and speakers who participate in our events.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to develop creative assets for speakers and panelists to co-promote events.
  • Write copy for promotional materials including landing pages, newsletter placements, email blasts, and social posts.
  • Build program outlines and speaker overview plans for speakers and moderators including questions, themes, and goals of the program.
  • Lead prep calls and tech checks with clients and external stakeholders.
  • Work with PR.
  • Be a key team member and leader in event development and execution.
  • Execute brand partnership programs with a focus on storytelling and business angles.
  • Maintain a timely understanding of the business of the sports landscape, current events, deals, and ongoing coverage on FOS platforms.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience working within the sports entertainment industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience managing producers and reporters, driving editorially, and working across platforms, departments, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, and ability to interface with C-Suite executives internally and externally.
  • Strong industry knowledge and relationship background - connected to agencies, teams, venues, leagues, media companies, and brands, among others.
  • Creative execution, the ability to bring abstract thoughts into tangible programs in the form of events.
  • Team player, this role will cross-collaborate with internal teams on a daily basis.
  • An organized multi-tasker who is able to work on a variety of projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion for sports and a deep understanding of various sports disciplines.
  • On-air experience or public speaking experience is a plus.
